A 38-year-old victim was attacked by two suspects yesterday at the area of 1030 W. Bishop in Santa Ana. The suspects attacked the victim by striking him with a 2′ x 4′ on the head and stabbing him, on Sunday , 8/7/16, at approximately 11 p.m.
The victim is in stable condition and expected to recover. The suspects are possibly members from the a local criminal street gang. Continue reading
There was yet another homicide in Santa Ana last night, at approximately 9 p.m., at the Circle K store located at 710 East Dyer.
SAPD police officers were dispatched to a stabbing at that Circle K Store at 710 East Dyer. The victim was located and transported by OCFA to a local hospital suffering from serious stab wounds. The victim did not survive. Continue reading
Brian Reyes, a 25-year-old Santa Ana man, was arrested early today on suspicion of driving under the influence after colliding at a 405 freeway on-ramp, nearly hitting a parked car and leading police on a chase, according to the O.C. Register.

The OC Human Relations Commission held its annual Hate Crime Network meeting and presented the Orange County Hate Crime Report for 2015. One of Supervisor Todd Spitzer’s Policy Advisors attended the meeting along with partner organizations, law enforcement and concerned residents for the annual Hate Crime Network meeting.

Advisory: West Nile virus Update from the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District
The number of adult mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) in 2016 has more than doubled in the past week, bringing the total to 113 samples collected in 22 Orange County cities (see chart below). The findings are compounded by the announcement of the first human West Nile virus infection by the Orange County Health Care Agency on August 3rd, underscoring the importance of mosquito breeding and bite prevention. Retired NBA player Dennis Rodman, who once played for the Lakers, is waiting to see if prosecutors will file charges against him in an alleged hit-and-run accident, according to the O.C. Register.
To date Rodman has not been cited or arrested, according to the CHP. However the agency did recommend that the OCDA charge Rodman with felony hit-and-run and driving the wrong way on a freeway. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A speeding driver was convicted yesterday and sentenced to 11 years in state prison for killing two people by crashing into their car after driving through a stop sign in Santa Ana. Jorge Ocampo, 24, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty yesterday, Aug. 4, 2016, to two felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, one felony count of hit and run with permanent injury or death, one misdemeanor count of driving without a valid license, and admitted to fleeing the scene after committing vehicular manslaughter. CDPH Reports Two Cases of Zika-Related Birth Defects in California

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) reported today that two infants with Zika-related microcephaly have been born in California to women who had Zika virus infections during pregnancy after spending time in a country where the virus is endemic. While mosquitoes that can carry the virus have been found in 12 California counties, there is no evidence these mosquitoes are transmitting Zika in the state at this time.
“This is a sobering reminder for Californians that Zika can cause serious harm to a developing fetus,” said CDPH Director and State Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith. “We join the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in urging pregnant women to avoid travel to areas with known Zika transmission. Pregnant women who must travel to one of these areas should strictly follow steps to prevent mosquito bites and speak with a health care provider upon return.” Continue reading

SAPD police officers responded to the area of 2000 West Elder Ave., in Santa Ana, on a report of a shooting that had occurred shortly after midnight.
A female victim was located who said she was driving on Elder Street when a suspect exited his vehicle, in the middle of the street, and fired multiple times at her car. Thankfully the victim was not struck by the gunfire. Continue reading
A man was shot last night after 10 p.m. when he was sweeping a business parking lot in the 1100 block of South Main Street. He was confronted by a suspect who attempted to steal the victim’s bike and during the altercation, the victim was shot twice to the upper torso.
