VALERIE AMEZCUA WINS RACE FOR SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD
Santa Ana, California – Valerie Amezcua has won a seat on the Santa Ana Unified School District Board. Final election results posted by the Orange County Registrar of Voters show Amezcua placed second in a field of eight candidates. The results are expected to be certified tomorrow.

Victim in Fatal Stabbing Identified
ANAHEIM, Calif. – (November 17, 2014) – On Sunday, November 16, 2014, Orange County Sheriff’s Department homicide investigators initiated an investigation following discovery of a male adult lying in the street suffering from multiple stab wounds. Ruben Martinez, 27, Anaheim, was detained at the scene and later arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing.
The victim, Maximino Fuentes Clara, 52, Garden Grove, was stabbed multiple times during a physical altercation with Martinez. Clara had a dating relationship with Martinez’ mother; however, investigators have yet to determine a motive for the attack. The investigation is ongoing. Continue reading

Public Safety Agencies Showcase Communications Equipment & Mobile Command Vehicles
WHAT: The California Statewide Interoperability Executive Committee will be hosting an exercise in Orange County, with Los Angeles, Riverside/San Bernardino, and San Diego counties also participating. The purpose of this exercise, called the Multi Agency Regional Radio Interoperability Training Exercise, is to test the interoperable capability of radio communications equipment inside mobile command post vehicles. The Orange County Board of Supervisors is apparently going to ignore the Santa Ana City Council’s attempt to place a moratorium on the building of a homeless shelter in the middle of a poor Latino neighborhood on the East side, on Normandy Place.
The agenda for the Board of Supervisors meeting on Nov. 18, 2014, includes this item:
Direct staff to move forward with 1217 E. Normandy Place, Santa Ana, CA project; accept grant deed document to transfer fee title to County of Orange; and authorize Chief Real Estate Officer or designee to sign related documents, make minor modifications under certain conditions and perform related actions – District 1.

While Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido enjoyed a resounding victory in this year’s General Election it is increasingly likely that he will not run for reelection in 2016. If that happens who should run for his Mayoral seat?
I would imagine that many of our Council Members would run – although it is more likely that those with safe Council terms would do so, such as David Benavides, Sal Tinajero and Michele Martinez, who were all reelected this year. Their colleagues Roman Reyna and Vince Sarmiento will have their hands full running for reelection for their Council seats in 2016.
An open Mayoral seat would also invite interest from past Council Members and those who have run for Mayor before unsuccessfully, such as Al Amezcua and Thomas Gordon. Top City Commissioners would also be in the mix.

The Santa Ana City Council will be voting at their next meeting on an agenda item that will repeal their idiotic Bicycle Licencing and Registration Ordinance.
This ordinance allows the Santa Ana Police Department to ticket residents who don’t register their bikes – but you can only register them at the SAPD’s headquarters during office hours. Ridiculous! This ordinance was clearly intended for the harassment of those who are not well to do.

SANTA ANA, CA (November 14, 2014) – On November 4, 2014, City of Santa Ana voters approved Measure BB, a City proposed measure to regulate the establishment of medical marijuana collectives and cooperatives. The City has a legal duty to enforce a voter approved ballot measure and has begun developing the implementation plan.

Vanesa Tapia Zavala, 26, and Candace Marie Brito, 27, were convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of a 23-year-old woman outside a Santa Ana nightclub were each sentenced to to six years in state prison Friday in an Orange County courtroom, according to NBC News.
They were earlier found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and assault in the death of Annie Kim Pham, an aspiring writer who died two days after the January fight when she was taken off life support, according to the Press Telegram.
Witnesses testified that Pham and her group of 11 friends were waiting in line to get into The Crosby, a downtown Santa Ana bar and restaurant, as Brito, Zavala and several of their friends were exiting. At some point, the groups bumped into each other and Brito and Zavala’s friend exchanged words with Pham. The friend was not charged in the case, according to ABC News. Continue reading
