SANTA ANA, Calif. –Discovery Channel’s Emmy®-nominated series comes to life to uncover truths behind popular myths by mixing scientific method with gleeful curiosity and old-fashioned ingenuity in MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition, which makes its way to the Taco Bell Discovery Science Center beginning June 14, 2014 – September 7, 2014. The exhibition creates hands-on, interactive experiences for guests of all ages by combining popular scientific facts with innovative, family-friendly displays. In MythBusters, co-hosts Adam Savage, Jamie Hyneman, Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara take scientific investigation to exciting new levels by proving or exploding myths using their highly experimental approach and extensive backgrounds in special effects. Longtime Santa Ana Com Link member found dead surrounded by over 50 cats
Sad news to report. Longtime Com Link member and Santa Ana neighborhood activist Rita Corpin, a 72-year-old , was discovered by her gardener around 11 p.m. Tuesday on the porch of her home in the 1400 block of South Rosewood Avenue in Santa Ana, police said, according to CBS News.
Corpin retired in 2010 from decades of teaching world history at La Quinta High School in Westminster, according to the OC Register. Corpin was not hurting for money. She retired with an annual pension of $120K per year, according to an online source.
I spoke to Santa Ana Planning Commissioner Sean Mill about Corpin’s death. Mill recalled that she was actually one of his teachers. Patchwork Show, an arts and crafts fair, set for June 15 in DTSA
The Patchwork Show, an annual event that draws 180 crafts makers and 5-8,000 people to the downtown Santa Ana area, is set for June 15, 2014. This free special arts & craft fair will feature high end artisan food makers, textiles, plush toys and vegan body care. There will be three stages of music as well as free interactive stations so that visitors can participate and make crafts.
Area restaurants will also have Father’s Day & event specials throughout the day. The event will feature shuttle service from the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (SARTC) to the downtown area to aid with parking. Continue reading

SANTA ANA (June 10, 2014) – Members of the public are invited to attend three Public Review Meetings to learn about and provide comments on any possible social, economic and environmental issues related to the Santa Ana – Garden Grove Fixed Guideway Project. This transportation project, a partnership between the Cities of Santa Ana, Garden Grove and the Orange County Transportation Authority, would provide a convenient connection from the Metrolink commuter rail service at the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (SARTC) and move commuters, visitors and area residents between the transportation center and key activity and employment centers in Santa Ana and Garden Grove. A Santa Ana man fell to his death from a UCI building on Tuesday
Maxwell Chorak, 25, of Santa Ana has been identified by the Orange County Coroner as the man who fell off the university’s fives story social sciences building on Tuesday afternoon at 4:18 pm.
He was pronounced dead at the scene according to the OC Fire Authority, as reported by the OC Register. Continue reading

Proposed Santa Ana streetcar could pose a terrible safety hazard
A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a train Monday evening, according to the OC Register, which also reported that “witnesses told investigators that the signals warning pedestrians and motorists about the incoming train had activated, and the man appeared to move underneath the arm meant to block the sidewalk.”
The fatal collision halted train traffic through the area, according to Metrolink’s official twitter feed. Buses were sent to the area in order to assist commuters.

Man found guilty of burning and disfiguring an 11-month old female relative

WESTMINSTER – A man was sentenced Friday to 25 years and eight months in state prison for placing a female relative in a bathtub filled with water that was over 120 degrees Fahrenheit and severely burning and disfiguring the victim. Alfred Alexander Hollimon, 24, Westminster, was found guilty by a jury March 21, 2014, of two felony counts of child abuse, one felony count of mayhem, and a sentencing enhancement for causing great bodily injury to a child under 5, with a prior strike conviction in 2008 for attempted robbery in Nevada. Teacher’s union taking a big interest in the 2014 SAUSD School Board election?
This fall’s Santa Ana School Board race is shaping up to be perhaps the most interesting local election in awhile.
Candidates for the SAUSD School Board who already announced that they are running in November include Shuntele Andrews, a retired Valley High School teacher; Cecilia Aguinaga, a community activist who serves on the OC Vector Control Board; Eric Alderete, an attorney and Planning Commissioner; and Valerie Amezcua, a Supervising Probation Officer at the Central Youth and Family Resource Center in the City of Santa Ana.
Two SAUSD School Board Trustees are up for reelection – John Palacio and Audrey Yamagata-Noji. Both have been in office far too long. I hear Yamagata-Noji may be retiring from the School Board. I have not heard that about Palacio. I suspect he will run again. He almost has to. He says he is a political consultant but who would hire him? He needs the pay and benefits he gets from the SAUSD.
