Sunday, March 3, 2013, from 10 AM – 4 PM

Visitors to the Bowers can enjoy free access to the museum, Kidseum, and all activities on the first Sunday of every month, thanks to the Target Corporation. Due to occupancy limits of popular and specially ticketed exhibits, ticket distribution is limited to 1500 tickets per day, 250 per hour on a first-come, first-served basis. All visitors must be present at the time of ticket distribution. Reservations are not accepted. Free to attend.

Tonight is the Santa Ana Art Walk! Come to Downtown Santa Ana and check out all the exhibits and live music – and enjoy the local bars and restaurants, from about 7 to 10 pm.

This Saturday….AVANTGARDEN is proud to present the work of NANCY T STEWART…for the month of March. Nancy’s art explores all media from pen and ink, watercolors, oils, encaustics, to printing and mixed media. Her “work has become more internal, a reflection of what is going on for me, sometimes based on a feeling, or an image I imagined, or even something I read that touched me.” In addition to working on her art she participates in painting workshops for wounded warriors, victims of sexual abuse and battered women through Art & Creativity for Healing, Inc. In 2008 she was awarded the Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation’s Senior Artists grant for her work at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. This award afforded her time in the Outpatient Infusion Center with patients and their families creating art. Continue reading→

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced today in a press release that “at approximately 5:30 a.m., Saith Na, the inmate that escaped from Theo Lacy Jail on Friday, March 1, 2013 was captured.”

Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department followed up on information that Na was in the Oceanside area. He was located in a motel in Oceanside and taken into custody without incident. Continue reading→

Southwest Santa Ana Little League is celebrating their Opening Day this Saturday, March 2, from 10 am to 12 noon, at Memorial Park, which is located on Flower and Saint Gertrude.

Following the Opening Day ceremonies will be a fun game pitting the Coaches against the Southwest Santa Ana Little League’s Board Members. Great food will be cooking at their awesome Snack Bar all day long.

Santa Ana Pony Baseball is also hosting their Opening Day ceremonies this Saturday, March 2, 2013, starting at 8 am, at Alona Park. Continue reading→

State Assemblymember emeritus and now Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) Trustee, Jose Solorio announced his candidacy for the 34th Senate District a little over a month after being sworn in.

This means that Solorio had no intention of finishing his term, but he still ran for the position. A month into the position, and he is already planning to jump ship. Continue reading→

BASED ON LEADS OBTAINED AFTER MEDIA STORIES DETECTIVES RECEIVED A TIP THAT THE SUSPECT MAY BE THOMAS WALKER A LOCAL TRANSIENT. AS DETECTIVES WERE WORKING ON LEADS TO FULLY IDENTIFY AND LOCATE THOMAS WALKER THEY RECEIVED AN ADDITIONAL TIP FROM A PERSON WHO WATCHED MEDIA REPORTS AND SAW THE COMPOSITE AND THE INFORMATION ON THE STOLEN BEACH CRUISER. SHE CONTACTED THE DETECTIVE AND ADVISED HIM THAT A MALE SUBJECT ABANDONED THE BIKE IN HER APARTMENT COMPLEX AS WELL AS CLOTHING THAT HAD BEEN DESCRIBED IN THE MEDIA REPORTS. There is so much going on today in Santa Ana that I chose to report it all in our infamous Political Chismes format, rather than post several articles. Here we go!

Bad news for Busty. Today was a bad day for former Santa Ana City Councilman Carlos Bustamante, as a “judge refused to dismiss a number of felony sex crime charges against him,” according to the O.C. Register. Bustamante is accused of sexually assaulting seven women he worked with in his former job in the county’s Public Works Department. The judge also denied a motion to have the Orange County District Attorney’s Office taken off the case. Bustamante worked to elect his former colleague, David Benavides, in last year’s Santa Ana Mayoral race. Luckily Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido prevailed. This film is an effort to better understand the dwindling college-bound American population, by Los Angeles filmmaker Graham Streeter, who embedded himself in East Los Angeles, where he befriended Julio, Edgar, and Abel: three Latino high school seniors; each attempting to navigate through the daunting and challenging transition between high school and college in their own unique ways. SANTA ANA – A man was convicted today of murdering his wife after she asked him to move out of their home for gambling away $100,000 in pension money and learning of his extra-marital relationship.
