Robert Hammond, promoting the GOP

Orange County’s Democrats are generally clueless, but this past June they were particularly out of sorts.  They inexplicably gave Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen a free pass, allowing her to focus on electing her fellow Republican, and gay-basher, Robert Hammond as he won a seat on the O.C. Department of Education’s Board of Trustees.

And the Democrats managed to fumble away Orange County’s most Latino seat, allowing it to go to Orange County Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly, who has since been charged with sexual harassment in the workplace.  If they had gotten behind Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez she might have prevailed in June.  Instead organized labor put up their guy, Julio Perez, splitting the Latino vote and allowing Daly to prevail. WEST NILE VIRUS ACTIVITY INCREASING IN ORANGE COUNTY

(Santa Ana) – West Nile Virus (WNV) activity is increasing in Orange County, with a total of six human WNV infections reported through September 6. Included in the total are 3 probable cases and 3 confirmed cases, including 2 positive blood donors who did not develop symptoms. Most of these cases experienced an onset of symptoms in mid- to late August, indicating a recent increase in activity. Continue reading→

DPOC’s fallen star, Nadia Lockyer, caught with meth

Former Democratic Party rising star Nadia Lockyer, who won a seat years ago on the SAUSD School Board as “Nadia Maria Davis,” was arrested last week in Orange County after someone tipped off the police.

Police said they found her in possession of methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia, including a “tubular aluminum foil with burned end,” according to NBC News.

Lockyer had her 9-year-old son, Diego, with her when she was arrested. Continue reading→

The O.C. Register’s Editorial Board opposes Santa Ana’s Term Limits Measure

The Orange County Register’s Editorial Board has decided to oppose Santa Ana’s latest unfair Term Limits initiative, Measure GG.  You can read the ballot argument I wrote opposing Measure GG here.  And here is their editorial:

Tighter term limits on the mayor than on the council seems like a device aimed at the incumbent.

THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER  

We long have favored term limits. But they are not a panacea for political problems. Exhibit A: Proposition 140, which voters passed in 1990. It limited the governor to eight years in office, Assembly members to six years and state senators to eight years. It was modified this past June by Prop. 28, which limited legislative terms to 12 years total in either house. Continue reading→

Benavides tried to evade the PBID issue, but failed

A clearly chastened Santa Ana Council Member Carlos Bustamante returned to work tonight, showing up to the City Council meeting so that he could join his longtime friend and Council ally David Benavides in supporting the unethical PBID tax.  Benavides is also a mayoral candidate this year.

Bustamante’s presence allowed the City Council to discuss the PBID.  Only two other Council Members could participate in that discussion – Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez, who capably presided, and Council Member Sal Tinajero. Continue reading→

The Republican Party of Orange County’s Endorsement Committee met tonight to consider a number of endorsements of local candidates running this November in the General Election.  Several Santa Ana candidates came up for endorsement – setting off quite a conversation at times.  One additional candidate, SAUSD School Board candidate Cecilia Iglesias, will be discussed by the Endorsement Committee tomorrow night.

Karina Onofre, a Republican running for the Santa Ana City Council in Ward 5, was endorsed with no debate.  She is running against lifelong Democrat Roman Reyna, an SAUSD Trustee. Continue reading→
