Mayor Miguel Pulido takes a stand against Arizona’s SB 1070

Has Mayor Pulido finally remembered his raza?

Can you believe it?  Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido is standing up against the racial profiling bill in Arizona!

Pulido, along with Council Members Claudia Alvarez and Vince Sarmiento, has put an item on the agenda for Monday night’s City Council meeting in opposition to Arizona’s SB 1070.  I am told that the City Council will also direct the City administration to not do business with any companies from Arizona.

Senator Correa Supports Relief Drive at Capitol to Aid Homeless Women and Children

SACRAMENTO, CA – State Senator Lou Correa, together with other legislators, participated yesterday in the kick-off of the “Essentials for Young Lives” campaign at State Capitol. The purpose of this campaign is to collect baby items for homeless mothers and their small children. Laundry baskets will be placed in legislator’s offices throughout the Capitol building during two weeks to collect essential baby items. Former Santa Ana Mayor Gordon Bricken still keen on Confederates

Gordon Bricken admires the Confederate Army memorial at the Santa Ana Cemetery

Do you remember a guy named Gordon Bricken?  He was once the Mayor of Santa Ana.  The O.C. Register is reporting that Bricken has written a book about gravesites of conferate and union soldiers that can be found here in Orange County.

“His parents taught him to respect the history of the Civil War – to remember relatives who fought in battle, to know the stories of people killed and families uprooted. His mother once gave him a hand-sewn Confederate flag for his room,” according to the O.C. Register.

Bricken is originally from Kentucky, which was a Southern slave state. Continue reading→

CASA of Orange County to Honor Outstanding Supporters at 25th Anniversary “Celebration of Children”

Irvine 2010 – Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Orange County, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the rights of abused children, will honor some of its leading supporters and volunteers at its 25th Anniversary “Celebration of Children”. The gala, celebrating service to abused children in Orange County, will be held at the Irvine Marriott Hotel on Saturday, May 22, 2010.

CASA began with 15 volunteers in 1985 and now has over 700 volunteers serving abused and neglected children as mentors and advocates. CASA is a powerful model for breaking the vicious cycle of child abuse by speaking up for these children who are lost in the overburdened foster care system. Developer wants to turn Park Santiago Neighborhood into Los Angeles

“The City of Santa Ana has received an application for the Park View at Town and Country Manor project, proposing to construct additional structures and facilities within the existing Town and Country Manor campus. The proposed project would add 174 independent living units to the existing campus. Also constructed would be a new expanded entry lobby, a covered pool area and fitness center proposed within an aquatic and wellness center, modifications to the existing parking lots, and creation of a main entrance driveway, connecting the two existing entrances on Memory Lane and Lawson Way and having one lane in each direction,” according to the City of Santa Ana’s Planning and Building website.

The Santa Ana Planning commission was presented with an environmental impact report for this proposed EIGHT story building for assisted living to be built next to the current Town and Country space. You can read the entire report online at this link.  The site is not far from the CityPlace center.

Protesters show up in Costa Mesa to oppose Joe Arpaio and Bill Hunt

Numerous Santa Ana residents drove south to Costa Mesa on Saturday morning, to a restaurant called “Sutra” to protest yet another appearance by corrupt, racist Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was in town to raise money for Republican Bill Hunt, who is running for Orange County Sheriff.

Santa Ana Lawn Bowling Club having an Open House on May 8

I noticed the banner shown in the picture above, when I was walking my dog today, at Santiago Park.  It would appear that the Santa Ana lawn Bowling Club is trying to promote their sport, even as the Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Agency and the Santa Ana City Council have been considering other uses for the Santa Ana Lawn Bowling Center.

Protesters showed up last night at Original Mike’s, in Santa Ana, to “welcome” corrupt, racist Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, as he appeared at a fundraiser for the lame Bill Hunt, who is running for Sheriff.
