Ballot measure seeks to legalize Santa Ana’s medical marijuana dispensaries

A group called the Committee to Support Medical Marijuana Ballot Initiative pulled paperwork from the Santa Ana City Clerk to begin the process of gatherings the roughly 5000 signatures needed to qualify it for the November ballot, according to a post written by OC GOP Central Committee Member, and Santa Ana resident, Thomas Gordon, at the OC Political blog.

According to Gordon, “The initiative would allow medical marijuana dispensaries to operate under strict guidelines such as limiting hours from 9 am to 9 pm, restricting patients to 21 years of age and older, forbid loitering and limit dispensaries no closer than 600 feet from a school or park. It would also limit the number of dispensaries in Santa Ana to 20.” Continue reading→

Santa Ana teen on bike struck in hit and run accident, on Monday night

SAPD Advisory: 13 Year old female riding bike in crosswalk is struck by unknown vehicle. Suspect flees the scene, victim in ctitical condition.

On Monday evening (2-06-12), at approximately 7:00 PM, a 13 year old girl riding her bicycle north on Greenville across Warner was hit by an unknown vehicle driving west on Warner Avenue. The girl was knocked to the ground and sustained severe injuries. The unknown driver fled, making no attempt to stop or check on the condition of the injured girl. Passing motorists stopped to render aid to the girl lying in the roadway. The cause of this collision has not yet been determined and is under investigation. The victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital. Continue reading→

Orange County Black History Parade and Cultural Fair Will Be held in Downtown Anaheim

Anaheim, California (January 24, 2012) – The 32nd Annual Orange County Black History Parade and Cultural Fair will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Downtown Anaheim. The event celebrating African American heritage and history begins with the parade, which starts at Anaheim Boulevard at 10 a.m., and concludes with the cultural fair at the Center Street Promenade, after the parade. Featuring food vendors, retail booths, entertainment, a History Walk, community organizations and a Youth Village, the fair promises a day of delicious food, good fun and great entertainment. Hike O.C.’s Limestone Canyon today and see the O.C. Grand Canyon!

Once a month, OC Parks and the Irvine Ranch Land Conservancy open Limestone Canyon Wilderness Park up for a Wilderness Access Day. Most of the time, Limestone Canyon is only open for limited guided tours, which anyone can sign up for through the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks Activities page. However, during the Wilderness Access Day, you’ll have free reign around any of the trails in Limestone Canyon.

The main draw of Limestone Canyon is a geological feature called The Sinks. The Sinks is a large canyon carved into the soft limestone hills that has been called The Grand Canyon of Orange County. Unfortunately, people are not allowed to climb down into The Sinks, but are only allowed to look at it from above due to their delicate nature. Continue reading→

O.C.D.A. to file additional murder charges against former Marine Ocampo

SANTA ANA – The Orange County District Attorney’s (OCDA) Office will file two additional counts of murder Monday against a former Marine for the stabbing-murder of a mother and her son in Yorba Linda. The defendant is also charged with murdering four homeless men in a serial thrill-kill spree. Itzcoatl Ocampo, 23, Yorba Linda, is charged with six felony counts of murder with special circumstances for multiple murders and lying in wait and sentencing enhancements for personal use of a deadly weapon, a knife, during the commission of a crime. If convicted, he faces a minimum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole. The special circumstances in this case make Ocampo eligible for the death penalty, and the District Attorney will make this determination at a later date. Ocampo is being held without bail and will be arraigned on the new charges Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. Continue reading→
