Event: As the District’s third oldest school, Thomas A. Edison Elementary is an integral part of Santa Ana’s history. Built in 1937, Edison has recently undergone major reconstruction to become a 21st century facility that supports Santa Ana Unified School District’s goal of preparing all students to be college and career ready. The SAUSD Board of Education and Superintendent Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana, Ph.D. will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony to symbolize the transformation of Edison Elementary. The Leading Orange County Business Organization, OCBC, Endorses Eric M. Alderete for Santa Ana City Council – Ward 3

Santa Ana, California – Eric M. Alderete’s campaign for Santa Ana City Council (Ward 3) received a vote of confidence from the business community. Alderete announced today that the Orange County Business Council (OCBC) endorsed his candidacy for Ward 3. For the first time ever, the RSCCD elections are going to be Area Specific.  Tapia is running in Area 3, against OC GOP Central Committee Member Thomas Gordon – a lifelong Republican; and Nelida Yanez, who lost badly to David Benavides when she challenged him for the Santa Ana City Council in 2006, according to Smart Voter.  Benavides beat her by a two to one margin. Why is no one hosting Santa Ana School Board candidates’ debates?

All the politicians in Santa Ana swear that education is a top issue for them, from State Senator Lou Correa, to U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez and Assemblyman Jose Solorio.  However there are NO candidates’ debates scheduled this year for the Santa Ana Unified School District and Rancho Santiago Community College District races.  I find this incredible but this is not the first time this has happened.  Two years ago there were also no SAUSD School Board candidates debates or forums.

This was not the case back in the day, when at least the PTA would get involved.  But now our voters have no such opportunity to see the school board candidates in action.  This is deplorable!  Continue reading→

Watch Star Wars under the stars at the Santiago Park Nature Reserve on 9/28

We have all probably seen the original “Star Wars” movie many, many times. But this Friday, Sep. 28, you can watch it again – under the stars, at the Santiago Park Nature Reserve, at 7:30 pm, courtesy of the Santa Ana Naturalist Program.

Gather around the Santiago Park Nature Reserve fire pit and bring your own blankets, hot dogs, marshmallows, skewers, blankets, warm clothing and hot beverages. Punch, water and popcorn will be provided for free by the Santiago Park Nature Reserve staff. Continue reading→

Summer has ended, yet most of us can’t seem to get out of this Southern California’s heatwave! If it wasn’t for our Golden State beaches, it would have even been an unbearable 3 digit heat. This October, Gallery 207 introduces artists who are inspired by our surrounding beaches and seaside.

Representative paintings for the ocean lifestyle by Jason Kuncas. And a unique approach by artist, Doughlas Cross, as he displays a “series of mixed media sculptures, utilizing salvaged and damaged surfboards as a canvas. Sarmiento is backing an Anaheim candidate opposed to Latino voter rights

Our neighboring city of Anaheim exploded this summer when Anaheim cops appeared to shoot a young Latino in the back – and no weapon was found on him.  There was already a movement underfoot in Anaheim to push for Area-Specific City Council elections since currently most of their Council Members live in Anaheim Hills – and no Latinos serve on their City Council.

Usually the candidates supported by Disney, the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce and SOAR – a political action committee run by Disney and other area resort businesses, get elected easily, but this year might be different. Continue reading→
