There is so much going on today in Santa Ana that I chose to report it all in our infamous Political Chismes format, rather than post several articles.  Here we go!

  • Bad news for Busty.  Today was a bad day for former Santa Ana City Councilman Carlos Bustamante, as a “judge refused to dismiss a number of felony sex crime charges against him,” according to the O.C. Register.  Bustamante is accused of sexually assaulting seven women he worked with in his former job in the county’s Public Works Department. The judge also denied a motion to have the Orange County District Attorney’s Office taken off the case.  Bustamante worked to elect his former colleague, David Benavides, in last year’s Santa Ana Mayoral race.  Luckily Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido prevailed.  Will Benavides commisserate with Bustamante tonight?  Stop by Chapter One, in Downtown Santa Ana, and see if they show up.  Be sure to send us any pictures you get of these two tossing them down! The groundbreaking documentary film “Boys in Peril” will be screened at Santa Ana’s Valley High School on March 22, 2013.

This film is an effort to better understand the dwindling college-bound American population, by Los Angeles filmmaker Graham Streeter, who  embedded himself in East Los Angeles, where he befriended Julio, Edgar, and Abel: three Latino high school seniors;  each attempting to navigate through the daunting and challenging transition between high school and college in their own unique ways. MAN CONVICTED OF MURDERING WIFE AFTER MARITAL DISCORD OVER HIS GAMBLING AND CHEATING

SANTA ANA – A man was convicted today of murdering his wife after she asked him to move out of their home for gambling away $100,000 in pension money and learning of his extra-marital relationship. Agustin Armaraz Espinoza, 58, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count of murder and faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state at his sentencing May 17, 2013, in Department C-44, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. I am hearing that accident Santa Ana Council Member Angelica “Angie” Amezcua is regretting running for Ward 3.  She clearly was a stunt candidate who got lucky and won, despite not running a campaign.

Amezcua’s husband Rob commented here on this blog when we revealed that Amezcua had been going by her married name, Angie Oliver, before she ran for office.

It is already obvious that Rob speaks for Angie and that she should consider vacating her office and letting someone do a better job of serving the residents of Ward 3. Continue reading→

The next Friends of the Santa Ana Public Library Book Sale is set for Wednesday, February 27, 2013, from 5 pm to 7 pm, at the Santa Ana Public Library’s Basement Bookstore @ 26 Civic Center Plaza, in Santa Ana.
