SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 31 years to life in state prison for the beating-murder of his girlfriend’s sister’s 18-month-old daughter and abusing another child in a similar way in 2009. Juan Carlos Aguilar, 27, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury Aug. 5, 2013, of one felony count of murder, one felony count of assault on a child with force likely to produce great bodily injury resulting in death, and two felony counts of child abuse.
In July 2011, Aguilar lived in a Santa Ana apartment with his girlfriend, their 3-year-old daughter, his girlfriend’s sister, and her 18-month-old daughter Megan Rodriguez. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – A man was convicted and sentenced today for soliciting sex from a woman whom he believed to be a prostitute. Joel Swank, 25, Westminster, pleaded guilty today to one misdemeanor count of agreeing to engage in prostitution. Swank was sentenced to three years of informal probation, 10 days in jail with the possibility of CalTrans in lieu of jail, and must submit to AIDS testing and education. Continue reading

No surprise – the SAUSD overpaid their new Superintendent
Santa Ana Unified School District officials were less than excited last week to share their new superintendent’s salary contract – one that makes Rick Miller one of the highest-salaried school district superintendents in California, based on the latest figures from the state Department of Education, according to the Voice of OC.
The new Superintendent’s “contract includes a $300,000 salary, a $7,200 annual car allowance and other benefits – is set to receive a $35,000 salary increase over the previous superintendent at a time of major financial challenges at the district.” (That is crazy money but Miller is still making less than Randy Barth, the CEO of Think Together, who banks $330K a year!).
This is of course what we predicted would happen. Miller is very old and does not figure to work in Santa Ana for very many years. He is spiking his retirement pension with this huge salary – at our expense. Continue reading
