Two men were injured, including an innocent bystander who was in critical condition, after a gang shooting Tuesday night at about 8:14 p.m.,at the 1000 block of West 2nd Street, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
Gang members were driving on West 2nd Street and shot the first victim, who is a known gang member but they also shot an innocent man in his 30s. Continue reading

A 51-year-old Santa Ana woman, Karen Portillo, was killed on Sunday night at about 8:30 p.m. when she was struck by a Ford Flex at First Street, west of Yorba Avenue while she was crossing the street, according to Behind the Badge.
Portillo was walking on First Street when she entered Yorba Street to cross it, according to the O.C. Register.

GANG MEMBER CONVICTED OF MURDERING ONE WOMAN AND ATTEMPTED MURDER OF FEMALE BYSTANDER
SANTA ANA, Calif. – A gang member was convicted today of the murder of one woman and attempted murder of a female bystander. Irvin Tellez, 27, Garden Grove, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count each of first degree murder, attempted murder, and street terrorism with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death, personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, criminal street gang activity, and great bodily injury. Tellez faces a maximum sentence of 112 years and eight months to life in state prison at his sentencing, Nov. 20, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-30, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
Co-defendant Jaime Prieto Rocha, 42, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty Sept. 4, 2015, to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter with a sentencing enhancement for criminal street gang activity. Named National Blue Ribbon School for Second Time- Only High School Named in Orange County for 2015
(September 29, 2015) – Middle College High School in the Santa Ana Unified School District was recognized for the second time as a National Blue Ribbon School for its excellence in providing high learning standards for students. The announcement came this morning from U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan as he recognized all 335 National Blue Ribbon schools for their overall academic excellence and their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups – clearly a demonstration that all students can achieve to high levels. “I’m extremely proud to be the principal of a school with students that work so hard and teachers that put in such an amazing amount of effort to make sure that each student’s needs are being met,” said Dr. Kathy Apps, Principal of Middle College High School. MOMS Orange County Hosts Dream Big Kick Off to Help Provide 400 Car Seats to Families in Need
Over 30 guests attended the Dream Big Kick Off Party at The Robbin’s Nest Wine Bar in Downtown Santa Ana on Thursday, September 17, to begin the process of fundraising for MOMS Orange County and their Possible Dream as part of the Carousel of Possible Dreams presented by the Festival of Children Foundation. MOMS Orange County’s Possible Dream in 2016 is to provide car seats to babies in their program who are most in need. Their goal is to raise $25,000 by November 12 to help purchase 400 car seats. In 2014, over 450 families in the program were in need of car seats that MOMS Orange County was unable to provide.
Guests took time to set up their personal fundraising pages on their mobile devices while enjoying select wines, beers and appetizers. Special guests included California Highway Patrol Car Seat Technician Nancy Coon, and former State Senator and U.S. Congress, 46th C.D. candidate, Lou Correa, who shared a personal story about a family who lost their youngest child as a result of not being in a car seat, and offered his support to help MOMS Orange County achieve their dream. Investigators Seek Additional Victims of Child Pornography Suspect
SANTA ANA, Calif. (September 28, 2015) – On Friday, September 25, 2015, investigators from the Orange County Child Exploitation Task Force (OCCETF) arrested Christopher Brown, 42, Orange, on multiple charges related to possession of child pornography and lewd conduct with a child. Brown was arrested in an Orange County shopping center parking lot after investigators contacted him during a surveillance operation.
On Wednesday, September 16, 2015, OCCETF investigators received information from the Los Angeles Internet Crimes Against Child Task Force (LAICACTF) about Brown and his involvement in numerous acts of sexual misconduct. Brown, a professional photographer and children’s tumbling teacher, was suspected in being in possession of numerous photographs and videos depicting female minors. Investigators immediately began analyzing electronic data and conducting a preliminary investigation into Brown’s elicit sexual misconduct. Continue reading

Fountain Valley Police arrested a 25-year-old Santa Ana woman, Vanessa Montes, on Saturday, on suspicion of home burglary, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the O.C. Register.
Montes has been booked into the Orange County Jail in Santa Ana and is being held without without bail.
Two Fountain Valley homes near Mount Hope Street and Warner Avenue were burglarized between 1:30 and 6:30 a.m. on Saturday while the residents were asleep. Continue reading
The SAPD arrested Demarrea Chante Barnes, 29, in Anaheim today as a suspect in the horrific beating of an 83-year-old man, Tuyen Nguyen, in Santa Ana at about 6:10 a.m. in the 5000 block of West Edinger Ave., in Santa Ana, according to ABC News.
Barnes is believed he is a transient.
Nguyen was on his daily walk to get a newspaper and coffee at a Santa Ana restaurant when he was attacked with no warning in the parking lot. Fortunately the attack was caught on surveillance video. Continue reading

On 9-25-2015 at 0610 am, an 83 yr. old male victim pulled into the parking lot at 5015 W. Edinger and exited his vehicle. After exiting his vehicle, the victim was attacked without provocation by the suspect (Described as a M/B, 5-10/160, 40-50 yrs., unshaven, wearing a gray long sleeve shirt or black sweater).
The suspect punched and kicked the victim multiple times knocking him to the ground. The victim sustained injuries requiring treatment at a local hospital where he remains. Continue reading
A man was stabbed in the chest late on Thursday night, at around 10:25 p.m., at the Los Cristales bar, located at 1638 S Standard Ave., in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
Apparently the man got into an argument with another man. The two stepped outside to continue their fight and then one man stabbed the other in the chest, with a knife, according to the SAPD.
The stabber took off on foot and was not seen again while the victim was taken to a local hospital. The victim is expected to survive. His identity was not revealed by the police. Continue reading

A Santa Ana gang member was shot in the leg Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at McFadden Ave. and South Toland St., according to the O.C. Register.
The victim was walking by himself when three or four gang members got out of a car to confront him. After exchanging a few words the suspects all pulled out handguns and fired several shots at the victim. Continue reading
