Super King Markets will replace a former Ralphs location at 2741 W. MacArthur Blvd. in Santa Ana which closed on Oct. 23. Super King Markets plans to open this summer, according to the O.C. Register.

Bill Medley from The Righteous Brothers to Perform at Benefit Concert at Santa Ana High School for Student Scholarships

Volunteers of nonprofit Community Service Programs (CSP) are spearheading the 3rd annual production of The Vagina Monologues to benefit CSP’s Sexual Assault Victim Services (SAVS), which helps Orange County victims of sexual assault and abuse find their voice and overcome the hardships they’ve encountered. Funds will benefit CSP SAVS’ rape crisis center, prevention and education programming, which offers programs in conjunction with schools, colleges, and community groups to educate, empower and lead to reduction in the incidence of sexual assault, as well as funding for CSP SAVS victims’ emergency fund that directly supports victims and helps with relocation, housing, utilities, food, transportation and more. (February 10, 2016) – Santa Ana Unified School District celebrates Noeli Zarate, a senior at Santa Ana High School, for earning a perfect score on the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam in May 2015. This distinction is so superior that it falls into a select category in which Noeli is 1 in 55 students in the world to earn every point possible during this testing period. Samuel Elijah Alvarez, an 18-year-old man wanted in connection with the beating of a 72-year-old grandfather with a baseball bat, walked into the Santa Ana Police Department’s lobby and surrendered on Thursday, according to the SAPD.
The SAPd is investigating this crime as an attempted homicide.
Alvarez showed up at the SAPD’s lobby with his lawyer when he turned himself in, just after 2 p.m. today.
Apparently Alvarez was tight-lipped when he turned himself in – which was probably on the advice of his lawyer. Continue reading→
Samuel Elijah Alvarez, an 18-year-old man, is wanted in connection with the severe beating of a 72-year-old great-grandfather with an aluminum baseball bat in Santa Ana last week, according to the O.C. Register.
The victim, Jose Chacon, a Santa Ana resident, was at the 76 gas station at the 4500 block of Westminster Avenue, when he left the gas station’s mini-mart, tripped, and fell on top of Alvarez’s car. Alvarez then got out of his car and began to argue with Chacon. Continue reading→
The proposed OC Streetcar is one milestone closer to becoming the county’s first modern light-rail system, after President Barack Obama included $125 million for it in his proposed federal budget for the 2016-17 fiscal year, according to the O.C. Register.
The OC Streetcar project still needs to come up with another $20 million dollars. OCTA officials believe they can do so from state programs or local state tax dollars.
The streetcar will have 10 stops in each direction concentrated in Santa Ana’s Civic Center area running to the eastern edge of Garden Grove. Continue reading→
OCDE’s College and Career Preparatory Academy offers a path to graduation and much more
Kirstie Suarez’s family moved several times when she was in high school, bouncing between California, North Carolina and Florida before Suarez took her final classes at Saddleback High School in Santa Ana.
Somewhere along the way, she fell two classes short of graduating.
Five years later, Suarez has made up that ground, and rather quickly, thanks to the College and Career Preparatory Academy, a brand new charter school approved by the Orange County Board of Education to assist young adults in need of a diploma or a path to higher learning. Continue reading→
An unidentified 23-year-old woman from Santa Ana died after she was thrown from a late-night collision on the I-5 freeway when a driver rear ended a big rig, according to the O.C. Register.
Steven Heemstra, 24 of Irvine, was driving a gray 2013 Honda Civic at around 11:30 p.m. on the southbound I-5, south of First Street, when he crashed into the back of Idolina Romo’s big rig truck, according to the CHP.

Trichloroethylene Detected in Indoor Air Samples at Santa Ana Site
(Santa Ana) – Information provided by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) indicates that several chemicals have been detected in soil, groundwater and in air at 1224 E. Pomona St. in the City of Santa Ana. DTSC has been conducting sampling of the soil, soil gas, groundwater and indoor air at and around this former plating facility and will be using this information to develop a plan to remove the chemical contamination. Several of the chemicals detected are considered human carcinogens and/or cause other toxic effects to humans. Continue reading→
What started out as yet another Santa Ana car theft quickly escalated this afternoon, after several suspects in a stolen car took off when police tried to conduct a traffic stop, at 4:40 p.m. at West 15th and North Durant streets, not far from Willard Elementary School according to the O.C. Register.
When the suspects sped off the police gave chase, to 3rd and Main Streets, where the suspects crashed their stolen Camry into a curb and they may have also hit an electrical box. Continue reading→
A high-speed crash left one person dead and two others sought by police in Santa Ana Monday morning, according to KTLA News.
The accident happened this morning just after 2 a.m. when a driver in a silver Mercedes Benz ran a red light while speeding southbound at the intersection of North Bristol Street and West 1st St., according to the O.C. Register.
The speeding driver broadsided a red Ford Mustang that was headed eastbound through the intersection, fatally injury the Mustang’s driver, Mitchell Viturino, 61, of Fullerton. Continue reading→
