Community: The Courtyard Now Open – Temporary Transitional Shelter Near Civic Center

The City of Santa Ana is pleased to announce that the County of Orange has recently opened the ‘Courtyard’ a temporary transitional shelter for homeless individuals in the Civic Center. The Courtyard is located in the former Santa Ana Transit Terminal next to the Civic Center.

Further, the County of Orange entered into an agreement with Midnight Mission to provide homeless individuals with services and connections to service providers, health care, housing opportunities and a pathway to stability. Continue reading→

OCDA FILES CIVIL SUIT AGAINST SISTER COMPANIES AND THREE FAMILY-MEMBER OWNERS FOR UNLAWFUL SALE OF FETAL TISSUE AND CELLS FOR VALUABLE CONSIDERATION

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) Tony Rackauckas filed a lawsuit today against two sister companies and three owners for their role in the unlawful sale of fetal tissue and stem cells for valuable consideration. The OCDA filed a Complaint for Violations of unlawful, unfair, and fraudulent business practices in the Superior Court of the State of California in Orange County on Oct. 12, 2016, against DV Biologics, LLC, and DaVinci Biosciences, LLC. The Prayer for Relief in the Complaint seeks for the defendants to cease the sale of fetal tissue and cells, pay restitution to those harmed to be determined at trial, and pay any other civil penalties deemed just and proper.

“This case is not about whether it should be lawful to sell fetal parts or whether fetal tissue research is ethical or legal. We are simply charging DV Biologics, DaVinci Biosciences, and a father and his two sons with illegally selling hundreds of fetal tissue products for profit and treating human parts as commodities instead of giving it the respect the law intended. This lawsuit is aimed at taking the profit out of selling body parts,” stated District Attorney Rackauckas. Continue reading→

I attended the Latino Health Access City Council candidates forum tonight. Well part of it. After hearing their moderator, Voice of OC Editor Norberto Santana, harass Santa Ana City Councilman Roman Reyna and his Ward 5 challenger, Juan Villegas, I had to leave.

The problem is that Santana is anything but an objective moderator at these functions. As you can see in the video above Santana harangued the candidates when they refused to give the answer he wanted them to give. Continue reading→

Join the City of Santa Ana, Public Works Agency for the Community Graffiti Paint-out and Beautification Day. This is a combined effort by City-contracted graffiti removal crews and volunteers from the community. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon).

Watch the UCI Symphony perform at Santa Ana High School for only $10 on Nov. 4

Five years ago the UCI Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Stephen Tucker, adopted the Santa Ana High School (SAHS) Symphony Orchestra. The partnership was designed to build awareness of the university experience to make it a tangible goal for the SAHS students; increase access to arts resources; and cultivate engaged young artists, the Trevor School students, who will become involved citizens in their communities not just in the arts.

For the first time, the UCI Symphony Orchestra will perform a full concert in Santa Ana, continuing the intersection of our two communities for the benefit of both, on Nov. 4, 2016 at 8 p.m. Experience the famous Bill Medley Auditorium, whose namesake is the Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter best known as one-half of The Righteous Brothers and a SAHS alumnus ‘58, to support both schools at this special concert.

Man struck and killed by a pickup truck in Santa Ana today identified as John Redman

John Redman, a 54-year-old man was struck and killed as he crossed the 2649 W. First Street shortly before dawn Monday, according to the Orange County Coroner.

SAPD investigators believe that it is highly unlikely that Redman was using the crosswalk when he was hit, according to the O.C. Register. Continue reading→

Two Santa Ana homes in Ward 3 were shot at this afternoon

Today at about 4:30 p.m. a woman who lives at 1309 N. Berni called the SAPD and reported that her house was shot at and bullets struck her house, according to SAPD Case number 16-26702.

Officers arrived on the scene and located a single bullet that penetrated the front door. No one was injured. At this time there was no suspect information available and no identified motive. Continue reading→

The biggest civic issue in Santa Ana, without a doubt, is the horrible rise in violent crime – ever since the current City Council majority took power. You might recall that they fired former SAPD Police Chief Paul Walters, after he saved our city from bankruptcy. That is when they hired the current overpaid City Manager, David Cavazos, who later got caught having an affair with a Santa Ana city employee in the Planning Department. And they hired inexperienced first-time Police Chief Carlos Rojas – who has been over his head ever since.

The current City Council majority also got rid of the SAPD’s anti-gang squad. And look at the results. Shootings and stabbings just about every day. Over 800 crimes a week reported by crimemapping.com. The people of our city are afraid – and justifiably so. Continue reading→

Clown hysteria arrived at several Santa Ana public schools today

Clown hysteria has finally arrived at Santa Ana public schools. One of our readers is a local public school teacher at MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate School. She reported today what she called “the strangest experience in nearly 30 years of teaching.” Apparently the teachers at her school were in their lounge, on a break, when a cafeteria worker screamed “Lock the doors! Call the police!” and numerous children were brought into the kitchen while the doors were locked. Outside, kids were running, screaming and some were even crying. The principal rang the nutrition bell early and one of the teachers proclaimed, “They have ruined my nutrition!” Continue reading→

MAN SENTENCED TO 26 YEARS TO LIFE PRISON FOR STABBING-MURDER OF STRANGER IN PARKING LOT

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man was sentenced to 26 years to life in state prison today for the stabbing-murder of a stranger in a parking lot. Daniel Perez Munoz, 23, Garden Grove, was found guilty by a jury on Aug. 16, 2016, of one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a knife.

On Jan. 11, 2014, Perez Munoz was drinking with friends in an apartment parking lot in Stanton. The defendant walked to the parking lot of a nearby business and approached a local family man, 52-year-old Phuong “Bob” Huynh, who was walking to a store. Perez Munoz confronted Huynh and stabbed the victim several times in the neck and chest. The victim took one or two steps before he collapsed and died at the scene from the stab wounds.
