Pio Pico elementary closed for the day after a car crashed into a power pole

We don’t get snow days here in Santa Ana but the students at Pio Pico Elementary got to skip school today after a car crashed into a power pole early this morning, forcing the school to close for the day, according to the O.C. Register.

The single-vehicle crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. at the 6700 block of South Flower Street, according to the SAPD. Continue reading→

Santa Ana gangbanger pleads guilty to shooting at SAPD police officers

Imagine what might happen if you shot at police officers? Oscar Freddie Torres, a 19-year-old Santa Ana gang member, now is facing the consequences for doing just that. He pleaded guilty on Tuesday to grossly negligent discharge of a firearm because he allegedly opened fire on SAPD police officers that were responding to a domestic dispute, according to the O.C. Register.

Torres accepted a deal in return for his guilty plea that dropped attempted murder charges. He also admitted to sentencing enhancement allegations for the personal use of a firearm and criminal street gang activity. Continue reading→

Car theft suspect fled from the Costa Mesa police then escaped in Santa Ana

Costa Mesa and Santa Ana Police were searching for a man who led officers on a short, high-speed vehicle pursuit early this morning, but got away, according to the O.C. Register.

Costa Mesa police officers tried to pull the suspect over this morning for a vehicle code violation at 2:35 a.m. as he was driving a Honda Accord near the intersection of 17th Street and Newport Boulevard, according to the Costa Mesa police. Continue reading→

Convict who murdered a Santa Ana man over bad drugs attacks a state prison guard

Remember the Garden Grove man who shot and killed a Santa Ana man and shot at two women after he alleged that they sold him a bad bag of dope? Well convicted killer Dustin McDonald is in trouble again. This time he attacked a deputy at Wasco State Prison, which is north of Bakersfield, with a homemade shank last Wednesday, according to the O.C. Register. Continue reading→

As a reminder, please be aware that the City of Santa Ana does not provide street sweeping on City observed Holidays. The 2016 and 2017 holiday street sweeping schedule is provided below for your information. This includes the trash collection holiday schedule, which indicates the days where there will be a one-day collection delay.

A car crashed into a CHP vehicle last night at Fourth and Cabrillo Park Drive

Imagine crashing into a police vehicle? That happened to two people in Santa Ana last night at about 10:10 p.m. as the car they were riding in collided with a California Highway Patrol vehicle at Fourth Street and Cabrillo Park Drive, according to the O.C. Register.

The passengers in the civilian vehicle complained of pain, so paramedics were called to the scene. I have a feeling Los Defensores will be getting a new client today! Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Detectives Request Media and Public’s Assistance in Identifying Suspects Wanted in Armed Robbery of Café

On Monday, 11/21/2016 at 3:15 pm, a male Hispanic entered the M & Toi Café , located at 4702 W. 1st St., in Santa Ana, and sat down at the bar. After several minutes the male appeared to text unknown person(s) and approximately a minute later, two male suspects wearing bandanas to cover their faces entered the business armed with a handgun and a knife. The suspects demanded the female victim to open the register. The lone male Hispanic seated at the bar then walked around the back of the counter, removed the money from the register and fled along with the two armed suspects. The loss was US Currency. Santa Ana doctor placed on probation for 8 years for prescribing opiates without medical reasons

Dr. Kent Lehman, a Santa Ana doctor, has been placed on probation for eight years by the California Medical Board and has been restricted in what medications he can prescribe, according to the O.C. Register.

Lehman was accused of prescribing addictive opiates without a medical reason. He also was accused of gross negligence, due to prescribing opiates without first conducting proper physical exams and inadequate record keeping as well. Lehman is no longer allowed to prescribe certain controlled substances, including narcotics. Continue reading→

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a car this morning near Thornton Park

An unidentified 31-year-old man was struck and killed by a car as he rode his motorcycle near Segerstrom Avenue and Spruce Street this morning at around 6:15 a.m., according to the O.C. Register.

The unfortunate motorcyclist collided with a small car and he was declared to be deceased at the scene by paramedics, according to the O.C. Fire Authority. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Detectives Request Media and Public’s Assistance In Identifying Suspect Wanted In Armed Robbery of Gas Station

Suspect: Male White or Hispanic, 21-25 years old, black hair, medium build, 5’ 7” -5’ 9” tall, wearing dark sunglasses, white t-shirt, dark colored shorts and blue athletic shoes

Synopsis: On 10/13/2016 at 6:50 a.m., the suspect enters the 76 gas station and demands that the victim give him money from the cash register. After the victim refuses, the suspect begins to yell, “Give me the money, bitch!” then jumps over the display table while waving a black knife at her. The suspect chases the victim out of the business through a rear exit then returns. He physically rips the cash deposit box/till from the table, enters a newer model Kia Forte and flees the scene. November 19, 1921 – November 17, 2016

Enid Greife Stewart of Santa Ana passed away on November 17, 2016 two days short of her ninety fifth birthday.

Born in Brawley, California, Enid was raised in El Centro and San Diego on Tennyson St., Point Loma. She met her husband of fifty eight years, James Stewart at Point Loma College night school.

During World War II she worked at San Diego’s Consolidated Vultee aircraft factory while Jim was a Marine Corps officer serving in the Pacific. Continue reading→
