Free industrial arts event set for Feb. 9 at the Heritage Museum of O.C.

Community: Santa Ana Industrial Arts Roundtable: February 9th, 4-8pm at the Heritage Museum of Orange County

SANTA ANA – From blacksmiths to brew masters, car designers, sculptors, architects and even a Steampunk artist, Santa Ana’s industrial artists and craftsmen are gathering on the evening of February 9th, 4-8 pm for a Santa Ana Industrial Arts Roundtable at the Heritage Museum of Orange County showing that Santa Ana is still a hub where Orange County designs and builds things.

“Santa Ana industrial artists are designing the boxes shipped to you every day of the week, the design of the cars you drive, the lighting systems that you use and the technology you buy,” said event initiator Madeleine Spencer, Executive Director of Santa Ana Business Council, “It’s time to recognize the amazing craftsmen who are still designing and making things right here at home.” The Santa Ana Industrial Arts Roundtable will feature some fiery blacksmith demonstrations by the OC Blacksmith Guild, OC Brewers Guild tastings from Santa Ana craft breweries, with presentations and exhibits spanning fashion, film, photography and automotive design. Pilot Phase of Restaurant Meals Program Starts February 1st in Orange County

The pilot phase of the Restaurant Meals Program (RMP) will officially launch in Orange County on February 1, 2018 in participating restaurants in the cities of Anaheim and Santa Ana. Man who allegedly rammed two Irvine police cars arrested in Orange

Robert Weirick, a 35-year-old man, was arrested at a storage facility on Wednesday morning, Jan. 31, on suspicion of stealing a $10,000 bicycle and a car – which, officials said, he used to ram two police vehicles, according to the O.C. Register.

Weirick drew the attention of the Irvine Police Department when he allegedly stole a high-end bicycle. The Irvine Police  got a tip on Wednesday morning that Weirick was in a stolen vehicle. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA UNIFIED NAMED TO 8TH ANNUAL AP DISTRICT HONOR ROLL

Santa Ana Unified has been named to the 8th Annual AP District Honor Roll, which recognizes school districts from the United States and Canada committed to increasing access to AP for underrepresented students while simultaneously maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.

Edinger was shut down at the 55 Fwy. this afternoon due to a police pursuit and standoff

A 47-year old woman in a blue Corvette made a mess of local traffic this afternoon, Jan. 29, when she fled from police and then got into a standoff with CHP officers on the 55 Freeway, according to the O.C. Register.

The trouble started when the Corvette was spotted by police officers as it was speeding at up to 100 mph on the 55 Freeway, heading south from Chapman Ave. Continue reading→

Santa Ana creates a Quality of Life Team to deal with complaints about the homeless

In response to increased concerns regarding the County of Orange’s decision to displace a large volume of individuals currently residing along the Santa Ana Riverbed, a Quality of Life Team (QOLT) was established.

Starting on January 22, 2018, the City of Santa Ana adopted and kicked off this “pilot” interdepartmental team to address quality of life issues throughout the City that will run for a period of 30 days utilizing existing resources. This group was comprised of staff from the offices of SAPD, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Community Development , Community Preservation , City Attorney and the City Manager. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Deputy District Attorney Craig Cazares of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) was named Chair of the Orange County Bar Association’s (OCBA) Criminal Law section for 2018.

The OCDA is the largest law firm in Orange County and employs over 250 attorneys who review and prosecute cases ranging from misdemeanor DUIs to special circumstances murders in over 34 cities in Orange County. The OCBA is one of the largest voluntary bar associations in California, with over 9,000 memberswho meet regularly in sections and committees dedicated to discussing several areas of law. Orange County establishes a newly restructured commission to end homelessness

On January 23, 2018, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved the formation of the newly restructured Commission to End Homelessness, representing a transition to a regional, systems-based approach to solving homelessness.

The Board approved a Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness in 2012, and the previously existing commission, community partners and governmental agencies have made several strides in the implementation of the plan’s goals. Continue reading→
