OC Animal Care will Waive Fees to Encourage Adoptions
(Tustin, Calif.) – Due to an abundance of dogs, cats and other animals, OC Animal Care will begin waiving fees for pets adopted by residents across Orange County.
The waiver includes all regular adoption fees with the exception of a $27 charge for rabies licensing and will begin on June 29. The waiver will remain in effect until the capacity at the shelter drops below 60 percent. Continue reading
In the last two weeks, the Costa Mesa Police Department has seized 1,300 pounds of illegal fireworks. The City of Costa Mesa is a zero-tolerance city. Selling illegal fireworks is a felony, and possession/use of illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor punishable by up to $1000 fine and/or jail time.
Selling illegal fireworks in Santa Ana also can result in a minimum fine of $1,000 and even up to one year in jail. However will the SAPD actually get serious about illegal fireworks this year? Continue reading
An unidentified man has been hospitalized after he was hit by two cars while crossing a Santa Ana street Thursday, June 28, according to the O.C. Register.
The victim was crossing she street at the 1300 block of West First St., just west of S. Bristol Street, at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday night when he was hit by one car and then by another car. Both drivers sped off and did not check on the man or call the police, according to the SAPD. Continue reading
Quynh Thuy Nguyen
Hien Thi Nguyen of Huntington Beach, a 29-year-old woman, pleaded guilty Wednesday and was immediately sentenced to more than five years in prison for her part in pimping several women out of three brothels in Orange County, according to the O.C. Register.
Nguyen pleaded guilty to four felony counts of pimping but three felony counts of pimping and seven felony counts of pandering were dismissed as part of a plea deal. Continue reading
Two people were killed Thursday morning in a crash that involved a wrong-way vehicle and closed all northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway just south of the 22 Freeway in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
The crash involved a motorcycle and a Jaguar sedan, according to the CHP. Continue reading
A unidentified private ambulance driver in his 20’s crashed this morning at about 1:40 a.m. into a pole at E. Dyer Road and S. Main Street, in Santa Ana, and was lucky to survive after his vehicle was split in half, according to the O.C. Register.
Authorities believe the driver was speeding at about 60 to 65 mph when his vehicle hit a bump and then crashed into the pole in question, according to the OCFA. Continue reading

Joshua Encinas
Joshua Anthony Encinas, a 24-year-old Riverside man, was sentenced to nine years in state prison for shooting Joseph Frank Garcia, 23-years-old, to death behind a closed grocery store in Santa Ana last year, according to the O.C. Register.
Encinas could have faced more time behind bars but he accepted a plea agreement on June 22 that resulted in a murder charge being dropped. He did plead guilty however to charges of voluntary manslaughter and personal use of a gun. Continue reading
Dustin Lee Morgan
Dustin Lee Morgan, a 39-year-old Texas man is scheduled to be sentenced on July 20, for breaking into an 8-year-old girl’s bedroom in Santa Ana and molesting her, according to the O.C. Register.
Morgan was convicted of lewd acts on a minor younger than 14 and sexual penetration with a child younger than 10, which are both felony charges. Continue reading

On June 25, 2018, the City of Santa Ana officially provided a letter to the California Department of Public Health declaring the City of Santa Ana’s strong opposition to the proposed Orange County Needle Exchange Program (“OCNEP”) application for certification of mobile syringe needle exchange services, in the City of Santa Ana. A similar letter, dated June 8, 2018 from the City of Santa Ana’s Chief of Police, was submitted to the California Department of Public Health opposing the operation of the OCNEP Mobile Needle Exchange. The letter referenced the standards for refusal to certify an initial SEP Application, indicating “here, the harm to public safety significantly outweighs the benefits to public health conferred by the OCNEP.” Continue reading
The OC Health Care Agency has released a list of the eateries (including restaurants, caterers and even school kitchens) that they inspected and shut down for the week of June 15 – June 22, 2018. Most of these eateries reopen pretty quickly after the health inspectors determine their issues have been resolved. Here is the list:

We have been complaining about Rancho Santiago Community College District Chancellor Raúl Rodríguez for a while. Apparently the RSCCD Board was listening as they refused to renew his contract and he has decided to retire, effective next June. Too bad he is not going away sooner!
What was the last straw for Rodríguez? Was it the million dollars he blew on a dumb lawsuit against the RSCCD that could have been easily been prevented with sound human resources management?

Advisory: SAPD Detective Investigating Homicide – 1700 Newport Circle
Victim: Robert Silva (18) Santa Ana
On 06-23-18 at approximately 1:14 a.m., a citizen called the Santa Ana Police Department reporting a shooting in the area of 1700 Newport Circle. Responding officers determined a large group of juveniles and young adults attended an unsanctioned outdoor party in the street/parking lot of an industrial park.
During the gathering, a shooting occurred. Prior to the arrival of officers, partygoers transported a lone male shooting victim to a local area hospital. Doctors declared him deceased at 1:41 a.m. Continue reading
