Advisory: CMPD to conduct a DUI/Driver’s license checkpoint on Friday

CMPD TO CONDUCT DUI AND DRIVER’S LICENSE CHECKPOINT

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD), along with the California Highway Patrol, will be conducting a driving under the influence (DUI) and driver’s license checkpoint on Friday, June 8, 2018, from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. within the city limits.

DUI checkpoints like this one are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspensions and other expenses that can exceed $10,000. AT&T store robbery suspects were pursued to Anaheim early this morning

Robbers targeted the AT&T store at the 100 block of South Main Street early this morning, June 5, at about 1 a.m., according to the Orange County Register.

A dog was killed and three more were injured in a possible coyote attack in Santa Ana

A coyote that may have been cornered by four miniature pinscher dogs ended up killing one of them and hurting the rest at about 2:30 a.m. in an unincorporated area of Santa Ana on Monday, according to CBS News.

Area residents heard noises outside and then discovered that a 10-year-old female miniature pinscher mix had been killed in a possible fight with a coyote, according to Orange County Animal Care. Continue reading→

This week’s Cochino List includes a Donut Star in Santa Ana

Most of these eateries reopen pretty quickly after the health inspectors determine their issues have been resolved. Here is the list:

A Santa Ana man was arrested for attempted murder and felony elder abuse

Press Release: Attempt Murder and Felony Elder Abuse

On May 30, 2018, about 6:28 PM, several residents called to report a possible injured male that was lying in the street. Officers from the Moreno Police Department responded to investigate. Upon their arrival, they located an 86 year-old Hispanic male adult lying in the street with severe injuries.

The investigation revealed the victim was assaulted by a family member, who was detained at the scene. The suspect was identified as 40 year-old Alvaro Gutierrez of Santa Ana. Gutierrez was arrested at the scene and booked for suspicion of attempted murder and elder abuse. Continue reading→

EIGHT MEN CONVICTED OF LOITERING WITH INTENT TO COMMIT PROSTITUTION OR AGREEING TO ENGAGE IN PROSTITUTION

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) convicted eight men in May 2018 of loitering with the intent to commit prostitution or agreeing to engage in prostitution. The defendants in these cases approached a woman whom they believed to be a prostitute, or loitered in areas known for prostitution and human trafficking in Orange County. Each of the defendants below agreed to engage, or loitered with the intent to engage, in commercial sex with a woman and were subsequently arrested by law enforcement.

The SAPD is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that happened last night

Advisory: SAPD Investigating a Pedestrian vs. Vehicle (Fatal) Collision

On Thursday, May 31, 2018 at approximately 10:25 p.m., our officers responded to the area of the 1200 block of South Bristol St. in regards to a pedestrian vs. vehicle collision with the pedestrian reported to still be down in the roadway. OCFA responded and briefly treated the pedestrian at the scene before he was transported by CARE Ambulance to the UCI Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

From physical evidence and the statement of the involved party, the pedestrian was crossing Bristol outside of crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle which was headed north from Wilshire Avenue. The driver of the vehicle remained at the collision scene and cooperated with the investigation. The driver is believed to not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. The pedestrian’s sobriety will be determined through a forensic toxicology analysis completed by the Orange County Coroner’s Office as part of the autopsy. Continue reading→
