SANCHEZ APPLAUDS POSTAL SERVICE FOR STRONG SUPPORT OF VETERANS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) released the following statement today to applaud the United States Postal Service for its strong support of veterans.
“On this Veterans Day, we pause to honor those who have served this nation. I’m very proud to support returned soldiers and I thank the United States Postal Service for its steadfast and significant commitment to hiring the men and women who have served our country in uniform. The Postal Service currently employs 70,000 veterans of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines or Coast Guard. This means one in four postal workers is a veteran and makes the Postal Service second only to the Department of Defense as the largest employer of veterans in the nation. This is partly due to the Postal Service’s use of the Veterans Preference hiring program which I strongly promote.”
“Let us thank these veterans and their families for their military service and also for their service to our nation as letter carriers. In Congress I will do all I can to support these hardworking men and women by ensuring the continuation of six day mail delivery service. Forcing these workers to break their agreements and cut six day service is wrong. Our veteran letter carriers provide valuable services and instead of dismantling the Postal Service we should give it time to make changes to its business model so it can thrive.”
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is proud to represent California’s 47th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and parts of Fullerton in Orange County. She serves as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces and a senior member of the Committee on Homeland Security. Rep. Sanchez is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and sits on the bipartisan, bicameral Joint Economic Committee.
