Sibyl Victoria Kellogg was born on January 31, 1891 and was the eldest child of Hiram Clay Kellogg and Victoria Schultz Kellogg. Sibyl embraced her artistic talent at a young age and as a teenager was enrolled in the Westlake School for Girls in Los Angeles. At Westlake, Sibyl thrived in theater and poetry. She was married to Ralph Michelsen with whom she had two children, Ralph and Charlotte. She later married James “Bud” Mauerhan and had two additional children, James and Lois.
As an adult Sibyl found her calling in the kitchen, she taught adult classes in Vocational Catering and Pastries at Orange Coast College and other public schools in the county. In 1958, she published Treats in Eats a book that contains a myriad of recipes ranging from breakfast platters to desserts and tips on nutrition. This exhibit will showcase various photographs, newspaper clippings, diaries, and ephemera of Sibyl Kellogg Mauerhan.
Heritage Museum of Orange County is excited to open this exhibit as a part of Museum Day Live! 2013, hosted by Smithsonian Magazine.
