Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Fatal Vehicle Vs Pedestrian Collision
On 03/13/2014, at approx. 8:15 PM officers responded to the area of 1600 W. First Street in response to a vehicle vs pedestrian collision. Officers arrived on scene and found an adult female pedestrian unconscious lying along the south sidewalk with visible injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
A 2001 Volvo passenger car was driving east on First Street when the female pedestrian walked or ran south across First Street and in front of the Volvo. The male adult Santa Ana resident driving the car swerved to the left, but was unable to avoid colliding with the pedestrian.
The driver called 911 to report the incident and remained at scene where he was cooperative throughout the investigation. Intoxication did not appear to be a factor on behalf of the driver.
It appears the female pedestrian was walking or running south across 1st Street at the intersection with Forest Avenue while wearing dark clothing at night. The cause for this collision has not yet been determined as the investigation is ongoing. The sobriety of the pedestrian was unknown. The Orange County Coroner’s Office is conducting an investigation in attempt to positively identify the deceased pedestrian.
