SANTA ANA, CA (May 21, 2012) – Join the City of Santa Ana, Public Works Agency for their second Graffiti Paint-Out Day. Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 2, from 9am to noon. Coffee & donuts will be provided along with T-Shirts for first 100 registered volunteers for the event. We’ll provide the tools, gloves, paint and training. St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, in Santa Ana, has been caught promoting the political campaign of Ken Nguyen, a Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Commissioner, who is running for the Orange County Board of Education, in Area One, which includes the City of Santa Ana.

Repeated phone calls have been made to the church officials and to the Orange County Catholic Dioscese, but to date the signs are still all over the church’s property. This is illegal and puts the church at risk of losing their tax exempt status, according to the IRS: Continue reading→

Northeast Santa Ana Little League (NESALL) will host the District 30 Challenger All Star Game on Saturday May 19, 2012 @ 9:00 am. Please come out and support these great kids as they battle their physical challenges to play a game of baseball. It is an uplifting experience for these children to play the field, hit the ball, and run the bases. Your cheers of support as they play this game brings so much joy to their lives.

SANTA ANA – A man has been charged with killing a 3-year-old girl and severely injuring the child’s mother by crashing his girlfriend’s car into them as they passed through a crosswalk and then fleeing the scene. The man’s girlfriend is charged with helping him cover his crime by falsely reporting that her car had been stolen. Carlos Antonio Parra, 20, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count each of vehicular manslaughter by unlawful manner of driving and with gross negligence and possession of a controlled substance, and two felony counts of hit and run with permanent injury or death. Career politician Tom Daly insulted women voters in the 69th Assembly District today with a sexist oven pad that he mailed in his wife Debbie’s name.

Daly is obviously trying to pander to women voters but what a stupid way to do it. Is he saying that women belong in the kitchen? A lot of women don’t cook anymore. In my house I am the cook – and I do the grocery shopping too.

Santa Ana Council Member Sal Tinajero may put an item on an upcoming City Council meeting agenda to get rid of the Downtown Santa Ana Pbid, a property assessment that is collected and spent by a non-profit, Downtown Inc. There has been a lot of anger on the part of small businesses made to pay these fees (either directly as property owners or passed on to them in their leases by their landords), but who feel that they don’t draw benefit from Downtown Inc’s marketing, which has apparently benefited the Downtown restaurants and bars more.

Need more proof of that? Tara Jimenez, the owner of Drapes Vintage, was hired by Downtown, Inc. to run workshops to teach local Downtown businesses how they could make their stores more appealing to the downtown’s changing demographic,” according to the Voice of OC. Update: Valley High’s Armando Flores won the 2012 MLS Sueño!

UPDATE: Armando Flores, a student at Santa Ana’s Valley High School, won the 2012 MLS Sueno, which is the soccer version of American Idol, this past weekend, according to the L.A. Times. Congratulations to Flores! He will now have a chance to play on an MLS club’s elite youth team.

Armando Flores, a seventeen year old soccer player from Santa Ana was selected, from a group of almost 2,000 young soccer players, as one of only 18 regional winners who are competing this week in Carson, as part of the “Final Event” of the televised reality program, “Sueño,” MLS 2012, which is presented by Allstate.
