An unidentified armed suspect robbed the 76 station at 1502 E. Edinger Ave., in Santa Ana, this afternoon and then he led the SAPD on a pursuit that ended half an hour later in Tustin, according to the O.C. Register.
The robber was armed with an assault rifle. He allegedly pointed that weapon at perhaps as many as five people in several locations in Santa Ana today, according to the SAPD. Continue reading

Armando Edgar Duran Cruz, a 38-year-old Santa Ana man, is facing a six-year sentence for a DUI crash that killed another man and his 6-year-old nephew in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
Cruz pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving drunk causing injury, according to NBC. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 20. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens today announced the arrest of 85 individuals; seizure of 36 firearms, including assault weapons; seizure of 14 pounds of methamphetamine and three pounds of heroin; and the recovery of two stolen vehicles, as part of an investigation of Mexican Mafia members and associates operating in Orange County.
“Apprehending dangerous criminals is my number-one priority. We will hold accountable those who terrorize our communities and jeopardize public safety,” said Attorney General Becerra. “The California Department of Justice will continue to work alongside our law enforcement partners to successfully disrupt and dismantle gang activity in the Golden State. The SAPD tried to stop the driver of a possibly stolen Audi sedan with paper dealer plates this morning at about 10 a.m. The driver took off and led the police on a wild pursuit that finally ended in Bellflower at about 11:25 a.m.
The suspect led the pursuing SAPD police officers onto the northbound 405 Freeway and then onto the northbound 605 Freeway, according to the O.C. Register. Continue reading
Luis Flores-Mendoza
Luis Flores-Mendoza of Santa Ana pleaded guilty last year to impersonating a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent and threatening to deport a woman if she didn’t give him money. He was sentenced on Monday to eight months in prison, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Flores-Mendoza was initially arrested and charged in state court in July of 2016 after an investigation by the Placentia Police Department. Continue reading
This week Chairman Andrew Do called for a Study Session on Homelessness for the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
The meeting focused on building the County’s System of Care including mental health system integration, existing permanent supportive housing and units that in the pipeline, and federal funding sources allocated to the County and cities in Orange County. Continue reading
The OC Health Care Agency has released a list of the eateries (including restaurants, caterers and even school kitchens) that they inspected and shut down for the week of April 20 – April 27. Community: NOTICE TO RESIDENTS: SCHEDULE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS TO CONSIDER WARD RE-BOUNDARY
The Santa Ana City Council will hold a series of Public Hearings to consider modifying the Ward boundaries to comply with both the Federal and California law, including the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA).
The Ward boundaries were last modified in January of 2012. Since then, the City received correspondence asserting that the City’s current at-large electoral system, whereby council members are elected by all of the city electors, violates the CVRA because it allegedly does not allow Asians (a protected class) to elect candidates of their choice or otherwise influence the outcome of Santa Ana’s council elections. Following receipt of this correspondence, the City Council decided to place a charter amendment on the November 6, 2018 General Municipal Election so that the electors of the City can decide whether to change the method of electing council members to a by-ward system where each council member is required to reside in the ward he or she represents and is elected solely by the electors of that ward. The City Council also decided to consider changing the Ward boundaries to ensure that they are consistent with Federal and State law, including the CVRA. This re-boundary process will consist of a number of public hearings to allow interested persons to give input on ward boundaries. Continue reading
Federal authorities served warrants at multiple sites including some in Santa Ana and Anaheim on Thursday morning, April 26, arresting seven people and seizing a sizable haul of contraband, according to the O.C. Register.
According to a criminal complaint, several transactions involving guns and drugs took place at the Santa Ana home. A man and woman were seen taken away in restraints at the location. A third man was detained then released. There were also four children at the home during the raid, according to ABC. Continue reading
