They are trying to give away syringes to drug addicts, in Downtown Santa Ana, again!

Remember the nonprofit Orange County Needle Exchange Program , the weekly needle exchange program that made such a mess at Santa Ana’s Civic Center? Well the same nonprofit that got booted before is back – seeking state approval to bring needles back to our Downtown to give to homeless drug addicts, according to the O.C. Register.

These folks want to bring a van or some other type of vehicle to the area bounded by (N) East 4th Street, (E) North Standard Ave, (S) South Grand Avenue, and (W) East Chestnut Avenue, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at least once a week, with more frequent service as needed. Continue reading→

Community: Chepa’s Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – Ceremonia de Inauguración en el Parque Chepa

Join us to celebrate the opening of a new playground at Chepa’s Park. The public is invited to participate in the Ribbon Cutting ceremony in celebration of the new Playground at Chepa’s Park located at 1009 N. Custer in Santa Ana. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Chepa’s Park.

The new playground at Chepa’s park is one of the three sites selected to receive a State-Wide Healthy Play Training & Funding Initiative grant in CPRS’ Region 10. Chepa’s Park is a 17,600 square feet community park surrounded by apartment complexes and multi-unit homes. With over seventy-eight percent of the immediate surrounding population considered low income, this community is economically challenged with a large youth population and higher than normal levels of unemployment and homelessness. Community: Santa Ana Expands Legal Action on Homelessness. City Will Add All Other Orange County Cities to Lawsuit

SANTA ANA, CA – On Wednesday evening, the Santa Ana City Council directed the City’s legal counsel to take legal action against all Orange County cities and the County of Orange to compel parties to take immediate steps toward addressing homelessness throughout the County. Santa Ana will file the action by the end of the week.

The decision from the Santa Ana City Council closely followed a Tuesday afternoon decision from the Orange County Board of Supervisors to unanimously reject a shelter site proposal by south county mayors. Last week, the group of mayors proposed putting a homeless shelter in a remote canyon on property currently used as a pre-school and public library. The County has tasked cities with identifying and proposing homeless shelter sites. Continue reading→

Recalled SAUDS School Board Member Nativo Lopez demands that immigrants stop working with the police

It looks like recalled SAUSD School Board Member Nativo Lopez is up to his old tricks again. Yesterday Lopez announced a statewide campaign of “non-violent, non-cooperation” with all police authorities, according to the O.C. Register.

Lopez, a longtime ally of current SAUSD School Board Member John Palacio and current Santa Ana City Councilman Sal Tinajero, heads up Hermandad Mexicana, an organization that portends to help immigrants. Continue reading→

The County of Orange has bolstered mental health services again

Orange County Bolsters Mental Health Support Services

Orange County is bolstering its non-crisis mental health support hotline after experiencing a 56 percent surge in non-emergency calls last year.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors approved a new contract today that will provide more than a half-million dollars in funding for OC Warmline, a free and confidential non-crisis service for residents that are experiencing a mental health problem or behavioral health issue. Continue reading→

It was a wild morning in Santa Ana as police pursued a suspect all the way to Long Beach, according to the O.C. Register.

A Santa Ana dad shot his daughter’s ex as he tried to get into their house via a window

A Santa Ana dad grabbed his gun and shot his daughter’s ex-boyfriend as the man tried to get into their home via a window early on Sunday morning, April 22, at 1:50 a.m., according to the O.C. Register.

The incident occurred at the 1600 block of W. McFadden. The SAPD responded after they got a call about domestic violence. However the police arrived before the ex-boyfriend did. So they left. Continue reading→

Woman caught on video stealing a tip jar at a restaurant in Tustin

On Friday, April 13, 2018 at 10:00 PM, a female suspect stole a tip jar from Taco Factory then pushed an employee who attempted to intervene, according to the Tustin Police Department.

MOMS ORANGE COUNTY PARTNERS WITH UC IRVINE’S GAVIN HERBERT EYE INSTITUTE TO OFFER FREE VISION SCREENINGS FOR CHILDREN ON APRIL 26

SANTA ANA, Calif. (April 20, 2018) – MOMS Orange County, a Santa Ana-based nonprofit dedicated to helping families have healthy babies, is partnering with UC Irvine’s Gavin Herbert Eye Institute on April 26 to offer free vision screenings to children ages 6 months – 12 years old. Screenings will be offered at 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the MOMS Orange County offices at 1128 West Santa Ana Boulevard in Santa Ana.

Children who do not pass the vision screening may receive a free follow up comprehensive eye exam and glasses from the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at no cost. Continue reading→
