Orange County Supervisors votes to join the Department of Justice litigation against California State Law Senate Bill 54 “California Values Act”
SANTA ANA, CA— Today on a vote of 4-0, the Board of Supervisors authorized and directed County Counsel to intervene in the pending case United States v. California, Case #18-264 on behalf of the County of Orange. The Department of Justice’s lawsuit seeks to restore the federal government’s Constitutional authority and sole jurisdiction over immigration issues and end the existing conflict that local law enforcement encounters with state law. SANTA ANA, CA – Today, the Orange County Board of Supervisors reversed last week’s vote to designate three additional sites throughout Orange County as potential temporary homeless shelters. OC Streetcar Plans Roll Forward with Selection of Vehicles
The contract for up to $51.5 million will provide eight vehicles, each able to carry 180 riders
ORANGE – Plans for Orange County’s first modern streetcar rolled forward when the Orange County Transportation Authority board of directors on Monday approved the purchase of the streetcars that will carry passengers on the route through Santa Ana and Garden Grove.
The contract with Siemens Industries, in the amount of up to $51.5 million, will provide eight streetcar vehicles and spare parts and tools. The OC Streetcar route will have six vehicles in operation and two spare cars that can be rotated into the system as needed. Continue reading

A second teenager, Jason Anguiano, 17, of Santa Ana, has died following a car accident that occurred in Tustin last Friday, according to the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner. He died on Sunday evening at the Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana. Continue reading

Santa Ana has provided the largest share of assistance by any city in the county.
The Civic Center is the living room of Orange County but unfortunately, it has become ground zero for the homeless population. This regional crisis is impacting the quality of life for all residents, employees and visitors of Santa Ana.
I want to encourage all Santa Ana residents to attend the Board of Supervisors meeting this coming Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at 9am and ask the board to adopt a comprehensive homeless policy that states, “The County supports the equitable distribution of facilities and services throughout the Region, so that no one jurisdiction or community is impacted by providing more than its fair share of facilities and services”. Orange County Supervisor Shawn Nelson Joins California State Senator John Moorlach In Call to Open Fairview Developmental Center For Emergency Homeless Shelter
SANTA ANA, CA— In response to Federal Judge David O. Carter’s demand to immediately identify
a plan for emergency homeless shelters in Orange County, Orange County Supervisor Shawn Nelson is working with California State Senator John Moorlach to request he ask the State of California to take emergency action to open Fairview Developmental Center as an emergency homeless shelter.
The Fairview Developmental Center (FDC) occupies 114 acres of state-owned land and is centrally
located in Costa Mesa. The facility opened in 1959 and was originally designed to serve individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Utilizing infrastructure already in place will help expedite the transition of homeless from area motels to an improved triage center while satisfying the judge’s order to present a swift, realistic plan. Last night, March 22, 2018, at approximately 9:05 p.m., a male suspect entered a convenience store at the 3400 block of Fairview Road in Costa Mesa. The suspect demanded lottery scratchers, brandished a handgun, and fled the scene with approximately $600 in scratchers.

SANTA ANA, Ca. (March 23, 2018) – Two male suspects are in custody and 140 kilograms of cocaine has been seized from an Inland Empire residence as part of an investigation by a multi-agency operation to intercept and find narcotics, and hold drug traffickers accountable.
Investigators with the 12-agency joint operation at about 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, initiated a vehicle stop of an older-model Nissan Versa on the 60 Freeway. Two suspects –a 24-year-old man and a 38-year-old man – were arrested after investigators found a substantial amount of narcotics in the vehicle. The discovery led to further investigation, and prompted law enforcement to obtain a search warrant for the suspects’ residence. Continue reading
