SANTA ANA, Calif. – A woman was sentenced to two years in county jail today for committing a hate crime, grand theft, and vandalism for stealing three gold statues from a Buddhist temple in Santa Ana.

Human Options, an Orange-County based nonprofit dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence, is partnering with the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) to provide immediate, coordinated domestic violence assistance services to victims and their families.
The SAPD received 5,947 domestic violence-related calls in 2016. As a result of this high rate of calls, the SAPD identified a need for immediate, on-site specialized assistance for domestic violence victims and their families. Human Options, a nonprofit that has been leading the way forward to ending domestic violence for 35 years, has partnered with the SAPD to establish “The Coordinated Domestic Violence Response Coalition” which will strengthen legal advocacy services offered to all victims, increase victims’ access to support and services through the domestic violence response team, and develop and promote best practices/policies for responding to the crimes of domestic violence. Today shortly after 10 am the suspect’s family brought suspect Roberto M. Garcia to Santa Ana PD headquarters and turned himself into Traffic Investigators. He is currently being interviewed as to his involvement.
Suspect Roberto Mateo Garcia has been booked into the SAPD Jail for felony hit/run collision causing great bodily injury or death. Suspect’s vehicle was located in the city of Anaheim.

Synopsis: On 7/05/2017, Roberto Mateo Garcia (54) Santa Ana was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport, two door white, license plate: 5WHF583 when he struck and killed a pedestrian. Garcia immediately fled the scene in the involved vehicle. Officers were unable to locate Garcia or the vehicle. Continue reading
An unidentified bicyclist in his 50s was critically injured on Monday night, July 3, when he was struck by a semi truck in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
The crash happened near Euclid and Second Streets at about 9:40 p.m. according to the SAPD. Continue reading

When I grew up in the 70’s safe and sane fireworks were legal just about everywhere. Today they are only legal in a few cities here in Orange County, including Santa Ana, Garden Grove, Anaheim and Huntington Beach. If you have lived in Santa Ana for at least a year then you know that the 4th of July is insane here in town – with a plethora of illegal mortars and bottle rockets.
I would like to believe that the folks who fire off illegal fireworks in my city are patriots but I don’t think so. I think they are anarchists. They clearly don’t have much regard for the law. And that is not what the 4th of July is all about. Continue reading
It looks like the gentrifiers’ plans in DTSA are not working out due to the increase in violence in that community. I am told that the Art Walk is pretty dead now – and has been dead for some time. The latest violent episode won’t help!

However an insider tipped us off that there was a fight at DTSA, during this weekend’s Art Walk, when “some white bro sucker punched another guy. The fight spilled onto the sidewalk with the victim receiving a concussion.” Continue reading

The Santa Ana Unified School District would like to congratulate the Santa Ana Unified Speech and Debate program on taking top honors in the recent 2017 National Speech & Debate Tournament, held in Birmingham, Alabama.
Santa Ana Unified’s honorees include quarter finalists Lizeth Martinez (Villa Fundamental Intermediate) and Cielo Echegoyen (Lathrop Intermediate); semi finalists Isabella Guerra (Advanced Learning Academy) and Guadalupe Guzman (Sierra Preparatory Academy); and the District’s first-ever finalist, Gordon Tran (MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate). The City of Santa Ana’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency is the proud recipient of the State of California Youth Soccer and Recreation Development Program’s grant. The City of Santa Ana was awarded $1 million for the renovation of the Santa Anita Park Field. Plans are in the works to secure $2.5 million in matching funds for the completion of the project in fiscal year 2018-19.
The California Youth Soccer and Recreation Development Program awards grants on a competitive basis to fund new sports opportunities in heavily populated, low-income urban areas. Newly received grant monies will go towards the replacement of the current natural turf field with the installation of a synthetic turf field at Santa Anita Park. Continue reading

Suspect: M/H, 20’s, thin build, black/brown with a dark mustache. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded Sweatshirt (covering his face), denim jeans and black athletic shoes.
Synopsis: On 6/29/2017 at approximately 2:50 a.m., a masked suspect entered the Shell gas station located at 710 East Dyer Road; he approached the front counter of the business while brandishing a handgun located in the front waistband area of his pants. The suspect demanded money from the cash register; the store employee complied and gave him an undisclosed amount of money. In the video and pictures provided you can see the suspects face was momentarily exposed as he is approaching the cash register. Suspect fled the store on foot and there was no vehicle observed. Advisory: U.S. Marshals Assist SAPD Robbery Detectives In Apprehending Carjacking Suspect
Suspect: Luis Angel Castaneda (25)
On 09/30/16 Luis Angel Castaneda rented a vehicle from Coast to Coast Car Rental, in Stanton. When Castaneda returned the vehicle, he requested that an employee of the rental company drop him off with the rental vehicle in the area of 1500 N. Bewley St., Santa Ana.
Once there, Castaneda and a second suspect (who was already seated inside the vehicle) robbed the victim of his belongings using a shotgun. The victim was able to run away from the scene and the suspects fled with the vehicle. The vehicle was recovered. The shotgun is still outstanding. Continue reading

Alvar Gonzalez class of 1988, Santa Ana High School
Alvar Albert Gonzalez, a 47-year-old former Santa Ana High School science teacher, pleaded guilty Wednesday, June 30, to statutory rape and possession of child pornography, according to the O.C. Register.
Gonzalez met his young victim when she was in one of his classes as a freshman, at Santa Ana High School, according to the SAPD, back in 2013. Continue reading
