You can visit the Orange County Zoo, which features animals native to California and the U.S. and is located at the Irvine Park, for $2 per person plus a $3 parking fee during the week which increases to $5 on weekends. Ages 2 years and under are free. You can also buy an annual parking pass to all Orange County Parks and Beaches for $80.
Or you can take the family to the Santa Ana Zoo, which features animals that are mostly not native to California, for a whopping $10 per adult or $7 for children aged 3-7. Parking is free as are kids under 3. Continue reading

Community: It’s All Happening at the Santa Ana Zoo This Summer
SANTA ANA, CA – Visit the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park this summer for some “wild” times with family and friends! The Zoo is an urban oasis, providing a cool and relaxing getaway right in the heart of Orange County. Many events and activities are planned for this summer with some exciting developments in the works.

Friends of Santa Ana Zoo hosts this after-hour’s concert series, featuring live music, art by local artisans, zoo animals, Train & Carousel rides, and offers an exclusive craft beer tasting experience for adults 21 and over to help raise funds to help the Zoo. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic dinner, blanket, family & friends, enjoy the concerts, and wander around the Zoo after it is closed to the public. Jose Perez won a Chevy Sonic
Saddleback High School student Jose Perez was the lucky winner yesterday of the SAUSD’s perfect attendance car giveaway, which took place at Bruce Hamlin’s Guaranty Chevrolet, located at 711 East 17th Street in Santa Ana. Perez won a 2017 Chevy Sonic.
There were 733 eligible high school students in the contest during which five names were drawn. Then the five students each picked one of five cars that they believed might be the winning vehicle. The student whose key was able to start the car won that vehicle – and that turned out to be Perez. Continue reading

One lucky Santa Ana Unified School District high school student, who has had perfect attendance all year long, will be the winner of a brand new car as part of the Perfect Attendance Car Giveaway promotion courtesy of Bruce Hamlin, Owner of Guaranty Chevrolet, located at 711 East 17th Street in Santa Ana.
Every year, Hamlin hosts a celebration in the Guaranty Chevrolet showroom for nearly 733 eligible high school students. “The main reason we do this is to help the community. The more students that attend classes daily, the more educated the student becomes. Those are the people that become good citizens and therefore help the community. Remember a few weeks back when we noticed that the SAPD was no longer reporting crime data to Crimemapping – a website that logs crime activity throughout the U.S.? Well today the SAPD finally admitted what happened.
The SAPD noted in a press release that the Department changed its computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and apparently because of that the link between the CAD and CrimeMapping.com stopped working and had to be rebuilt. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – The award-winning Santa Ana Public Library promotes literacy and provides a fun and safe gathering place for adults and families all year long. Once again, the Santa Ana Public Library is proud to present their annual Summer Reading Program, an exciting, literary-based program for children, teens, and adults.
This year’s theme is “Reading by Design,” a creative way to use the spirit of reading to show that literacy is the foundation for all, be it architecture, fashion, or art! The Summer Reading Program is an excellent way to promote reading and continuous development for people of all ages. For children and teens, participation in a vacation reading program strengthens their reading skills and helps prevent them from falling behind academically. The Greenwood Homes in the Tustin Legacy development have been experiencing a spike in theft related property crimes since the beginning of the year. In addition to regular Neighborhood Watch meetings, several of the residents have installed video security surveillance systems.
On May 23rd a homeowner had a package stolen from the front porch and the surveillance video captured the suspect fleeing in a black Mercedes. On May 25th the same vehicle was involved in a package theft in a nearby Irvine neighborhood. On May 26th the suspect struck again at a different residence and he was once again captured on video surveillance fleeing in a black Mercedes. The license plate on the vehicle was stolen from a similar looking Mercedes in the City of Orange weeks earlier. Continue reading
Guest Inn and Quality Suites
Do you remember when the Guest Inn and Quality Suites, located at 2151 E. First St., was converted into the first large-scale permanent supportive housing project in Santa Ana for the homeless, last year? Well they are in the news again as the SAPD is now investigating a shooting that occurred there early this morning in which a woman was wounded, according to the O.C. Register.
When SAPD police officers arrived at the Guest Inn, after getting a phone call about a woman being shot, they found a woman with what looked like one gunshot wound to her upper torso, according to the SAPD. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif.— The California Supreme Court affirmed yesterday the death penalty verdict for the “Bedroom Basher,” a serial rapist and murderer who committed a string of home invasion rape-murders in Orange County in the late 1970s. This affirmation followed the defendant’s automatic death penalty appeal.
In October 1998, Gerald Parker, a former Marine, was convicted by a jury of the first degree murders of Sandy Fry, Kimberly Rawlins, Marolyn Carleton, Chantal Green, Debora Kennedy, and Debora Senior, with the special circumstances enhancements for committing multiple murders and murder during the attempted commission or commission of a rape and burglary. On 05/24/2017 Danielle Renea Thompson attended a court hearing at O.C. Superior Court. After the hearing Thompson walked out of court with her caregiver and fled east on Civic Center Drive toward Ross Street.
Thompson has been a victim of human trafficking, she is known to frequent the Harbor Blvd. corridor in Orange County and also frequents Figueroa Street in Los Angeles County. Continue reading
