Firemen battling a blaze at a home in Santa Ana’s Washington Square Neighborhood

A massive house fire began at about 8 p.m. at the 1000 block of W. Washington Avenue, in Santa Ana’s Washington Square Neighborhood, according to the O.C. Register.

Thirty OCFA and Orange firefighters fought the blaze according to the OCDA.

A man upset over a recent divorce burned down the house, according to ABC News.

Attorney General Announces Crime Reduction and Public Safety Task Force

Attorney General Jeff Sessions today announced the formation of the U.S. Department of Justice Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety

The Task Force was formed pursuant to the President’s Executive Order on a Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety and will be chaired by the Deputy Attorney General. Task Force members will be drawn from relevant Department components, and will include the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Director of the FBI and the Director of the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS). Suspect Perez was booked into the Santa Ana Police Department Jail for 2 Bank Robberies (Santa Ana), 4 Attempted Bank Robberies (3 in Santa Ana – 1 in Fountain Valley).

He is being held on a No Bail Probation Hold under the Post Release Community Supervision Program (AB-109). Detectives will be submitting the case to the Orange County District Attorney for prosecution. Continue reading→

This is the sixth in a series of six bank robbery incidents in Santa Ana and Fountain Valley. At 3:13 p.m., the suspect entered the Bank of the West. After providing the demand note, the teller gave the suspect an unspecified amount of money along with a tracking device. There were three shootings reported in Santa Ana this weekend

On Saturday, February 25, 2017, at about 5:30 p.m. SAPD police officers responded to 700 South Townsend Street, just northeast of Jerome Park, after receiving multiple calls of about a shooting. When officers arrived they located a 17 year old Hispanic male with a gunshot wound to the lower body. The victim was taken to a local hospital for his injuries, according to SAPD Case # 17-05222.

This shooting happened in Santa Ana’s Ward 4, which is represented by Councilman David Benavides. Continue reading→

Former SAUSD teacher sentenced to 190 years in prison after sexually assaulting two Filipino girls

Robert Ruben Ornelas, a former SAUSD school teacher was sentenced Monday to 190 years in federal prison for sexually assaulting two girls during trips to the Philippines, according to the O.C. Register.

Fortunately U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney dropped the hammer on Ornelas, giving him the maximum punishment available. Continue reading→

OC Streetcar Among Top 10 State Infrastructure Projects

Gov. Brown recommends expedited review to the federal government for the modern electric streetcar to run through Santa Ana and Garden Grove

ORANGE – Gov. Jerry Brown has included the OC Streetcar project on a list of 10 high-priority infrastructure projects that the federal government should consider for expedited permitting, he announced during a press conference today.

The modern electric streetcar, which will connect commuters to employment centers, schools and major retail destinations in Santa Ana and Garden Grove, was included in a letter from the state to the federal Council on Environmental Quality. In it, the governor urges that the OC Streetcar and nine other projects from across the state be designated as a high priority for California. Continue reading→

Crime Type: PC 211 Robbery/PC 245 Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Location: Nordstrom Main Place Mall- 2828 N. Main Street

Synopsis: On 02/16/2017, the above suspects attempted to take items from Nordstrom without paying. The store’s loss prevention officer approached Suspect #1 and a struggle broke out. Suspect #2 saw the struggle between the loss prevention officer and his accomplice and he attempted to intervene. Suspect #2 pulled a knife out of his pocket and attempted to stab the loss prevention officer. The stolen items were recovered before both suspects fled in a maroon 2000-2005 Ford Mustang. NEPHEW CONVICTED OF SHOOTING-MURDER OF UNCLE AFTER ARGUMENT AT BIRTHDAY PARTY

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A nephew was convicted yesterday of shooting and murdering his uncle after an argument at a birthday party. Daniel Lee Duvall, 39, Westminster, was found guilty by a jury on Feb. 23, 2017, of one felony count of first degree murder, and a sentencing enhancement for personal discharge of a firearm causing death was found true. Duvall faces a maximum sentence of 80 years to life in state prison. The court will hear a bifurcated trial on Duvall’s prior felony conviction for transportation of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a felon for the benefit of a criminal street gang in 2002 at his sentencing on April 14, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-38, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
