A man has been arrested by the SAPD in connection with an attack on Monday afternoon that resulted in another man being hospitalized with multiple stab wounds, according to the OC Register.
SAPD officers were called to 17th Street near the Santa Ana River Trail at 4:13 pm on Monday. They found a sharp metal object that may have been used in the attack, by the suspect. Continue reading

SPEAKERS: Ryan and Richard Girgis’ mother was murdered in 2004. Magdi Girgis, their father, was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to life in state prison without the possibility of parole for the 2004 solicitation-murder of his wife.
Prior to the murder, Magdi Girgis had a pending domestic violence case against him related to assaulting his wife, 55-year-old Ariet Girgis. A restraining order was issued, Ariet Girgis intended to divorce the defendant, and Magdi Girgis moved out of the couple’s Westminster home. Continue reading

OCTA Seeks Applicants For Measure M Taxpayer Oversight Committee

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is seeking qualified volunteers to serve on the Measure M Taxpayer Oversight Committee (TOC).
The eleven-member committee monitors OCTA’s use of Measure M funds and ensures that all revenue collected from both Measure M1 (M1) and the Renewed Measure M2 (M2) is spent on voter-approved transportation projects. The independent committee was formed after the passage in 1990 of Measure M, a half-cent sales tax to fund transportation improvements in Orange County. Continue reading
State Awards $17.5 Million for New County Juvenile Probation Center

The California Board of State and Community Corrections has awarded $17.5 million to the County of Orange to build a multi-purpose rehabilitation facility at the Juvenile Hall and Youth Leadership Academy campus in Orange, including a visitation center, meeting rooms and a gymnasium.
The funding was the most received among eight counties splitting nearly $80 million to improve housing and program space for youthful offenders. Continue reading

OCDA FILES NOTICE OF APPEAL OF SENTENCE IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE OF TODDLER
*Mandatory minimum sentence if convicted requires 25 years to life in prison
SANTA ANA – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) filed a notice of appeal today in the Orange County Superior Court to overturn a sentence of 10 years determinate in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration for a sexual assault case of a toddler with a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration.
Circumstances of the Case
On June 4, 2014, Kevin Jonas Rojano-Nieto was in a garage detached from the Santa Ana house playing video games when 3-year-old Jane Doe walked in. Rojano-Nieto became sexually aroused upon seeing her, locked the garage door, and then sexually assaulted Jane Doe by sodomizing her. When Jane Doe’s mother went to look for the victim and approached the garage door, the defendant covered Jane Doe’s mouth. When the victim’s mother left to continue looking for Jane Doe, Rojano-Nieto continued the sexual assault by using his hand to force Jane Doe to touch his penis. Continue reading
A fight broke out this afternoon involving up to 25 people, near the Community Day Intermediate and High School on Civic Center Drive and Fairview Street just after 3 p.m., according to the O.C. Register.
Two male students, ages 14 and 17, were stabbed during the fracas and were taken to local hospitals in Garden Grove and in Orange. The older boy is said to be in stable condition while the younger boy is in serious condition.
According to witnesses, the fight began on on Civic Center Drive and Fairview Street and ended up at a nearby an apartment complex on Fifth Street. Continue reading

Kidworks, a non-profit organization that recently hired Santa Ana Councilman David Benavides, asked for $45,000 in CDBG grants and the City Council gave them $56,000!

Pearl Raya is a lifelong resident of Santa Ana. She and her husband Leon are the proud parents of four children.
Pearl has spent her life supporting and mentoring families and children. She worked for the City of Santa Ana Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department for over 30 years, retiring in 2012. Pearl developed and managed programs for at-risk youth, families and senior, and she served as director of the Southwest Senior Center and Santa Ana Senior Center. Continue reading
The latest gang-related drive-by shooting in Santa Ana targeted two Saddleback High School students who are known to be gang members. One boy was walking while another student was on a bicyle, as they traveled south on Baker Street, near West Alton Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. A vehicle pulled up at around 2:55 pm and several shots were fired, according to the O.C. Register.
The boy who was on foot was shot in the neck and shoulder. He was lucky – he escaped with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – A real estate broker and two real estate agents who worked together have been charged with grand theft in a loan modification scheme. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) is seeking the public’s help identifying potential additional victims in this case. Michael Pelimiano Soriano, 45, Irvine, Agustin Navarra Alayon, 52, Canoga Park, and Joseph Anthony Q. Oliva, 50, San Jose, are each charged with six felony counts of grand theft and one felony count of collecting a foreclosure consultant unlawful advance fee. If convicted on all counts, they each face a maximum sentence of seven years in jail. Alayon and Soriano are out of custody on $29,500 bail and are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, April 16, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. Oliva remains at large.
At the time of the crime, Soriano was a licensed real estate broker accused of owning and operating Cyberlink Diamond Group, LLC (Cyberlink) in Huntington Beach, without having the company legally licensed with the California Bureau of Real Estate (CALBRE). Soriano is accused of employing Ayalan and Oliva, both real estate agents, to work at Cyberlink as marketing representatives to solicit consumers and offer them loan modification and foreclosure rescue services.
