Investigators Seeking Public’s Assistance Identifying Residential Robbery Suspect
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – (August 22, 2014) – On Friday, August 22, 2014 at approximately 11:30 a.m., a residential robbery occurred at 23300 block of Via Linda, Mission Viejo. The suspect forced open the front door of the residence and confronted an 82 year old female victim while she was lying in bed watching television. The suspect looked at the victim and told her “don’t move” while he ransacked her bedroom as well as other rooms in the residence.
The suspect is described as a male, Caucasian, 25-30 years old, 5’6” to 5’8” tall, 150-160 lbs., brown normal length hair, wearing a white t-shirt, black pants and no facial hair. No weapon or vehicle was seen. Continue reading

OC Fair Express Continues to Set Ridership Records
More than 76,000 fairgoers hopped aboard OCTA’s special bus service this year
ORANGE – This summer, more than 76,000 people made their way to the Orange County Fair via the OC Fair Express, which set a ridership record for the second year in a row.
The special bus service offered by the Orange County Transportation Authority reported 76,952 total boardings during the five-week fair season. This year’s numbers are a 31 percent increase compared to last year’s total ridership of 58,706. Continue reading

THEATRE OUT REVIVES CONTROVERSIAL BEIRUT
SANTA ANA, CA (August 18, 2014) Theatre Out is set to open their revival of the controversial drama, Beirut by Alan Bowne as its 5th 2014 main stage production on August 29, 2014.
Beirut was originally produced by the Manhattan Class Company in New York in 1987 at the height of the AIDS epidemic and presented a dystopian future where panic and isolation become the rule of law. The show received rave reviews for its brave and honest look at the what if of the AIDS crisis. Since its premiere, the play has been produced around the world, praised for its rich character study and lyrical dialogue. Beirut was later turned into a 1993 film, Daybreak featuring Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Moira Kelly.
Set in a quarantined district of New York that has been dubbed Beirut in the somewhat near future, the play introduces the audience to Torch, a young man who has tested positive, without symptoms, for a nameless and incurable disease. Instead of reacting with science and medicine, the government of the United States has made a choice to respond to the disease with force and authoritarian control over the sex lives of its citizens, physically branding those who test positive to the disease. Torchs girlfriend, Blue, is able to sneak past the guards, cameras and sex detectors in an attempt to be reunited with her lover. Blue must choose between a life of freedom or an unknown life of ever-evolving symptoms and eventually death. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – An employee for a building remodeling company is scheduled to be arraigned today for cashing in disability checks under the false pretense of being unable to work. Angel Monzon, 51, Santa Ana, is charged with 24 felony counts of insurance fraud, seven felony counts of perjury under oath, and four felony counts of making fraudulent statements. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in state prison. He is being held on $39,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.
On April 19, 2010, Monzon worked as a granite installer for Fermol Inc. in Huntington Beach. While working, Monzon lost his balance and fell while carrying a large piece of granite, which broke and landed on the defendant’s right thigh and knee. Eight Suspects with Outstanding DUI Warrants Caught in ‘AVOID the 38’ DUI Task Force Sweep
SANTA ANA, Calif. (August 20, 2014) – On Monday, August 18th, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department dispersed into neighborhoods with dozens of outstanding arrest warrants in search of high risk DUI offenders. Deputies served the warrants and arrested eight offenders who either failed to show up for a court date or violated terms of their probation in an outstanding DUI case.
“The best bet for anyone with a missed DUI court date is to go to court on their own,” said Deputy Shane Stewart of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Bureau. “If you don’t, that warrant isn’t going away. We’re going to come find you and take you to jail.” Those caught often face additional jail time for failing to appear in court or for violating probation. Continue reading

WESTMINSTER – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for posing as a deliveryman and committing home invasion robberies of occupants at gunpoint in Garden Grove. Jerry Cleveland Coleman, 34, Garden Grove, is charged with seven felony counts of first degree robbery in concert, seven felony counts of imprisonment by violence or deceit, seven felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, two felony counts of dissuading a witness by force or threat, two felony count of criminal threats, and sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a firearm and committing a crime against a vulnerable victim. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 100 years in state prison. The People will be requesting he be held on $1 million bail at his arraignment today in Department W-2, West Justice Center, Westminster. The time is to be determined.
At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 11, 2014, Coleman is accused of posing as a deliveryman by carrying a bouquet of flowers and a clipboard and knocking on the door of a Garden Grove home occupied at the time by two teenagers and a 23-year-old woman. When one of the victims opened the door, Coleman and another man are accused of forcing their way inside the home using a handgun along with a third accomplice. The defendants are accused of threatening the victims and taking the victims’ property. Coleman is accused of being seen on home surveillance before fleeing the scene. Continue reading

OC Human Relations Releases the 2013 Hate Crime Report at 10am, Thursday, August 21st
The 2013 Orange County Hate Crime Report shows an increase in violent hate crimes, most notably simple and aggravated assaults. “We cannot stand for violence of any kind and violence motivated by hate is no exception. The Commission believes that a crime against one of us, is a crime against all of us, this report tells us that we must remain vigilant in our work to eliminate prejudice and discrimination in Orange County,” said Commission Chair Ken Inouye.
