MAN SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS IN STATE PRISON FOR KILLING PEDESTRIAN IN HIT-AND-RUN CRASH
SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to four years in state prison for killing a pedestrian by crashing into the victim with his car and then fleeing the scene. Victor Manuel Arredondo Anaya, 28, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury, Feb. 5, 2014, of one felony count of hit and run causing death and one misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence.
At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 10, 2013, Anaya was driving a BMW heading southbound on Orange Avenue approaching Stanford Street in Santa Ana. He hit 75-year-old Miguel Ceja, who was lawfully crossing in an unmarked crosswalk on Orange Avenue. Anaya struck the victim’s left side with his car, causing Ceja to crash onto the hood of the car and hit his head on the windshield. Ceja then struck the left side mirror before being thrown from the vehicle and tumbling into the driver’s door of a parked car. Anaya failed to stop to assist the victim and continued driving. Soccer Coach Arrested for Lewd Acts with a Minor
LAGUNA NIGUEL, California – (Thursday, March 27, 2014) – On Wednesday, March 26, investigators from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Detail arrested Ronnie Gamez, 27, Laguna Niguel, in the city of Laguna Niguel. Gamez, a soccer coach associated with several south Orange County club organizations, was arrested for lewd acts on a minor stemming from an incident in early March 2014. Parents of the victim found inappropriate communications between their child and Gamez, and reported the incident to law enforcement. The inappropriate sexual relationship allegedly began in February 2014 through March 2014. Continue reading

(Santa Ana) – Orange County has twenty-one confirmed cases of measles in 2014, the most reported by any county in California. The Health Care Agency expects that the measles outbreak will continue to spread, and reminds the public that the best way to prevent the measles is by getting vaccinated.
Five of the 21 cases have been children, none of them immunized. Five have been healthcare workers who became ill after exposure to measles cases. The Health Care Agency will take every precaution to prevent outbreaks in health care facilities, schools and daycare facilities. Unimmunized children, school and daycare staff, and healthcare workers who are exposed to the measles will be instructed to stay home for up to 21 days after exposure. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, CA (March 26, 2014) – Due to construction projects in the area, westbound 17th Street between Main and Broadway is reduced to one lane until tomorrow after 5 p.m. Cal Trans has also advised that the Broadway off ramp from the 5 freeway has been shut down and traffic is being diverted to the Main Street off ramp. These projects are creating heavy traffic congestion and motorists are asked to use alternate routes.
