MAN CONVICTED OF MURDERING ANOTHER MAN BY HITTING HIM IN HEAD AND FACE WITH AXE HANDLE
*Defendant fled the scene in victim’s car and was later arrested for DUI
SANTA ANA – A man was convicted today of murdering another man by hitting him in the head and face with the handle of an axe before fleeing the scene in the victim’s car. Jorge Santiago Avalos, 27, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count of murder and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in state prison at his sentencing Dec. 20, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-30, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. This was a re-trial of the case where a jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict in April 2012. Continue reading→

Noche de Altares in Santa Ana started in 2002 as a Dia de Muertos celebration organized for and by the community, including artists, students, families and community based organizations. Dia de Muertos is a community celebration with precolombian origins that exists throughout MesoAmerica and throughout the globe in different manifestations. It isa new day for Santa Ana Little League as Little League District 30 has granted Santa Ana’s Little Leagues permission to run a trial program this year that will create open boundaries in our city. That means your child will be able to sign up at the Santa Ana Little League of your choice! District 30’s Santa Ana boundaries run from East of Santa Ana River to the 55 Freeway South of the 22 Freeway & North of the 405 Freeway.
This is likely a reaction to the Pony League that set up shot in Santa Ana last year. They too can recruit players from all over the city and they have pilfered the ranks of our local Little Leagues.

City of Santa Ana Community Alert: City launches mobile computer lab tour this weekend to encourage community survey participation
SANTA ANA, CA (October 18, 2013) – At the City Council’s direction, staff has launched an online computer survey as part of the 5-year Strategic Planning process. In an effort to encourage resident participation, a mobile computer lab will be used in select neighborhoods over the weekend with several internet ready computers.
The City Council wants your input so please join us at one of the stops to complete the community survey. If you have already completed the survey pass this information to your friends so that the City Council has a good understanding of the community’s needs as they develop the 5-year Strategic Plan. On 10/17/13, Santa Ana Police Officers were dispatched to Carr Intermediate to investigate a possible child molestation. The investigation revealed that the now 13-year-old Jane Doe had been “friended” through Facebook by a 42-year-old male when she was age 12. The suspect identified as Manuel Arevalo Parada (Santa Ana) communicated with the victim on Facebook until four months ago. At that time the suspect arranged to discreetly meet with the victim on multiple occasions and engaged in lewd conduct with her over a 3-4 month period. Continue reading→

Orange County Sheriff’s Department Receives Grant for County-Wide DUI Enforcement Campaign
SANTA ANA, CA – (October 18, 2013) – Drunk and drugged driving remains the number one killer on our roadways with 774 deaths and over 24,000 injuries. The “Avoid the 13” DUI Task Force will be combating this deadly problem through DUI enforcement efforts in Orange County. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be administering a recent $114,232 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to cover DUI enforcement operations within the department’s 13 contract cities. The Santora Arts Building, the iconic Spanish Colonial style building that anchors Santa Ana’s downtown Artists Village, has been sold to Newport Beach resident Jack Jakosky, according to the Voice of OC.
Jakosky said in a brief interview that he wants to rekindle the building’s art scene, which has been declining in recent years as other businesses fill studios vacated by artists. Continue reading→

No Tricks, Just Treats at the Food Truck Fare Halloween Foodtacular at the OC Fair & Event Center
Costa Mesa, Calif. (October 16, 2013) – For the second year, the OC Fair & Event Center is turning its regular, weekly Food Truck Fare Wednesday (After Dark) into the Halloween Foodtacular on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 with the regular round-up of gourmet food truck fare, a DJ playing ghoulish grooves, a cash bar with “spirits” for adults 21+ and trick-or-treating truck to truck for kids. Family-friendly costumes are welcomed.
