Imagine if you had to gather up your dirty laundry and most likely walk or take the bus to the nearest laundromat, once a week? That is the reality for hundreds if not thousands of Santa Ana’s residents. For them a handful of quarters is the difference between having clean clothes – or not.
The folks at Laundry Love know this and for several years they have been randomly visiting laundromats in town and helping people who are struggling financially by assisting them with doing their laundry. Relationships are built this way, and they hope to become a small community of common concern in which participants find that they receive assistance and benefit with other areas of their lives as well. UPDATED: Two circuits were damaged. The first circuit was restored — 681 customers initially. One customer remains off. There were 1,082 customers impacted by the loss of the second circuit. All customers remain off.. Restoration at approx 9pm. A car hit a pole causing the power lines to come down.

Jesus Garfias, 28, and Pedro Lugo, 43, were taken into custody Tuesday and booked on suspicion of commercial burglary of more than $200,000 worth of cash and jewelry from three Orange County businesses at the Santa Ana Mini Mall, according to the O.C. Register.
Garfias was busted during a routine traffic stop in the 3400 block of West 17th Street around 4 a.m. Officers said his pockets were stuffed full of jewelry and he had a business card for the swap mall. A few minutes later, police said they discovered Lugo, along with several duffel bags full of additional valuables, according to CBS News. Continue reading→
One person was killed and four others were injured after two cars crashed in Santa Ana on Tuesday, as we reported yesterday.
The accident happened at 1st and Sullivan streets at about 9 a.m. Authorities say it appears the driver of a Nissan Altima, a 65-year-old man, ran a red light at Sullivan Street, slamming into a Nissan Infiniti. The Altima then crashed into a light pole and a tree, according to ABC News. Continue reading→

When I saw Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen motor through the Fiestas Patrias Parade this past Sunday, in Downtown Santa Ana, I was taken by her bleating “Viva Mexico” and missed something else that I should have caught.
Nguyen endanger her child and broke the law. Look at the picture above – she was holding one of her boys in her lap, with no seat belt, no safety seat and with only one arm to secure the toddler.

PAROLEE SENTENCED TO 55 YEARS TO LIFE FOR MOLESTING 4-YEAR-OLD FEMALE RELATIVE WHILE BABYSITTING
SANTA ANA – A parolee was sentenced Friday to 55 years to life in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration for sexually assaulting a 4-year-old female relative while he was babysitting her and solely responsible for her care. Gordon Ray Bodkin, 47, Huntington Beach, was found guilty July 23, 2013, by a jury of one felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child under 10, and one felony count of sexual penetration of a child under 10. He has a prior strike conviction for residential burglary in 2009. Continue reading→

WHO: Marilyn Kay Edge, 42, Scottsdale, Arizona
WHAT: Has been charged today with two felony counts of special circumstances murder. The special circumstances sentencing enhancements include committing multiple murders and murder by poisoning. She faces a minimum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. The People will be requesting the defendant be held without bail at her arraignment. Edge is accused of murdering her two children, 13-year-old Jaelen E. and 10-year-old Faith E. on Sept. 14, 2013. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Santa Ana Police Department. There has been a faatal traffic collision with one dead at the scene and four others injured and being transferred to Western Medical Center.

Several Santa Ana Council Members are going to have to run for re-election in 2014, including David Benavides, Michele Martinez and Sal Tinajero.
It may well be that by then a court will have already invalidated Measure D, which would mean these Council Members would be termed out, but that is by no means guaranteed.
