Rumors that Mayor Garcetti will appoint Thelma Melendez to be his education deputy are causing grave concern among public school parents.
In making this appointment, the Mayor should follow his creed to lead by listening and consider first and foremost the concerns of public school parents, the only “special interest” group whose only concern is children. In so doing, he can resist appointing a staffer who will advance the so-called “reform agenda” which tends to view schools as business franchises in need of a quick corporate turn-around. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Request public’s assistance in arson investigation
On 8-13-13 at about 0745 hours, Santa Ana Police Detectives investigating a series of arsons arrested Tommy Wayne Burke, age 43, in the 100 block of North Sullivan for violating the conditions of his parole. Burke, a registered arson offender, is a person of interest and is not being charged for this case at this time. Burke was released from prison in May of 2013 after being convicted for starting several dumpster fires in 2010. Continue reading

Costa Mesa, Calif. (August 12, 2013) – After the last pickle was wrapped in bacon, corn dog deep-fried, piglet petted, carnival plush won and concertgoer rocked, 1,374,579 Fair-goers had heeded the OC Fair’s invitation to “Come & Get It” in 2013.
