SANTA ANA – A father faces trial Monday for the murder of a Santa Ana man after becoming angry over a physical altercation that occurred one month prior between his daughter and the victim. Cesar Gerardo Marta, 41, Omaha, NE, is charged with one felony count of murder and has a 1993 prior strike conviction for robbery. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 55 years to life in state prison. On November 26, 2010, Juan Hernandez was the victim of a violent gang crime in Santa Ana that resulted in the loss of his left leg. Investigation into the incident identified the suspect as Jose Luis Berruette. The investigation disclosed Jose Berruette fled Santa Ana immediately after the crime(s). It is believed Jose Berruette has been living in Mexicali, Baja Mexico. The Santa Ana Police Department’s Gang Detail is holding an active Felony Warrant of Arrest for Jose Berruette’s apprehension. Community: City Announces End of Furlough Work Schedule
SANTA ANA, CA (June 20, 2013) – The City of Santa Ana is pleased to announce the furlough program will sunset effective June 30, 2013.
Effective July 1, 2013, the City will be on the 9/80 B schedule and all employees will return to the work schedule they had prior to the furlough program. The first Friday open to the public will be July 12th. Continue reading→

The Santa Ana City Council Monday night set a public hearing for July 1 to hear protests from business owners regarding a newly proposed tax to replace the property taxes that funded controversial Downtown Inc, according to the Voice of OC.
Under a settlement agreement, the city would for three years provide $400,000 annually for Downtown Inc.’s cleaning and security services. The proceeds of the new district would be equally split between two groups — Downtown Inc. and the Santa Ana Business Council, a group composed of merchants who opposed the special property tax and are likely to conduct more Latino-oriented promotions. NEWPORT BEACH – Law enforcement is seeking the public’s help identifying potential additional victims of a caregiver accused of sexually assaulting a 66-year-old disabled woman. Robert Dumlao Ligayo, 62, Aliso Viejo, was charged today with one felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object by force. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of eight years in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. He is being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on June 26, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. in Department H-1, Harbor Justice Center, Newport Beach. Continue reading→
Gordon Bricken, the former Santa Ana mayor who spent more than a decade walking Orange County cemeteries to find graves of former Civil War soldiers, lost his battle with cancer on Monday. He was 76, according to the O.C. Register.
From 1964 to 1974 he served on the Santa Ana Planning Commission where he developed an interest in Santa Ana history. In 1974 Gordon was appointed to the City Council where he served until 1984. He was Mayor from 1981 to 1983 and was instrumental in obtaining the All-American City Award for Santa Ana. Continue reading→

FUGITIVE GANG MEMBER TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR MURDER OF FELLOW GANG MEMBER IN 1999 SHOOT-OUT WITH RIVALS
SANTA ANA – A fugitive gang member arrested in Virginia will be arraigned today for the 1999 murder of a fellow gang member in a drive-by shoot-out with rivals. Ca Van Le, 32, formerly of Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of murder, one felony count of conspiracy to commit murder, and two felony counts of attempted murder, with sentencing enhancements for criminal street gang activity and the vicarious discharge of a firearm as a gang member. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 80 years to life in state prison. Le is being held without bail and is expected to be arraigned today, Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.
