Winter Holiday DUI Campaign – Update #4

DUI Arrests Down & No DUI Fatalities

SANTA ANA, California (December 27, 2013) – The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and ‘Avoid the 38’ DUI deployments during the past several days in Orange County.

From 12:01 a.m. on Friday, December 13 through midnight on Thursday December 26, officers representing 38 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 597 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2012, 694 DUI arrests occurred during the same fourteen (14) day time period. There have been no DUI related deaths reported. (NOTE: These numbers are only provisional with some agencies yet to report). Continue reading→

OCTA Offers Free Bus Rides on New Year’s Eve

Those celebrating the New Year can count on OCTA as designated driver

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority is helping to make roads safer during New Year’s Eve celebrations by offering free bus rides from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve) to 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day).

The public can take advantage of the hassle-free rides on all fixed-route lines during those hours. Passengers planning a bus ride are encouraged to use the online trip planner in advance at octa.net or call (714) 636-7433. Continue reading→

Winter Holiday DUI Campaign Update – DUI Arrests Down & No DUI Fatalities

SANTA ANA, California (December 17, 2013) – The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special ‘Avoid the 38’ DUI Task Force deployments over the weekend in Orange County.

From 12:01 a.m. on Friday, December 13 through midnight Sunday December 15 officers representing 38 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 209 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2012, 227 DUI arrests occurred during the same three (3) day time period. There were no DUI deaths over the weekend. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Police Investigate Fatal T/C arrest driver DUI & Gross Vehicular Manslaughter

11/21/13 at 0115 am a 1993 Honda Civic Hatchback occupied by five occupants (three males –two females) traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on the 900 block North Fairview Street when the driver lost control and collided with a fence and then into a utility pole .

One of the adult passengers (Male 23) Santa Ana died as a result of the impact, name not released pending notification of family. The driver and three remaining passengers were transported to local trauma centers for their injuries. The Collision Investigation Unit responded to investigate. Continue reading→

SAPD Update: Fatal Traffic Collision – Mc Fadden/Mohawk one fatal, three additional persons injured

Update: Driver identified as Andres Renee Lopez, age 30

On Saturday, November 16th, 2013 at 1:48 am, patrol officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of McFadden Avenue and Mohawk Drive. The officers located one vehicle that had three trapped/injured occupants and requested the assistance of OCFA and Medics. The vehicles involved were a ’89 silver Nissan Sentra and a ’06 black Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck. Firefighters were required to utilize heavy equipment to extricate the three male adult occupants. Continue reading→

Driver slams his car into a power pole on West 1st St. and Kenton Drive

A 32-year-old man was cut out of a small car after driving into a power pole on West First Street and Kenton Drive, in Santa Ana, on Thursday night at about 7:30 pm, authorities said, according to the O.C. Register.

The man was taken to a trauma center at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with a broken arm and various cuts and scrapes.  The Santa Ana Police suspect that alcohol or drug use may have caused the crash, according to Santa Ana police Cmdr. Eric Paulson. Continue reading→

OC Sheriff’s Department Receives $100,000 grant to fight alcohol-related crimes

SANTA ANA, CA – (October 22, 2013) – The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to battle alcohol related crime. The Sheriff’s Department will use the funds to expand its enforcement efforts towards licensed establishments that operate in a disorderly manner, create an undue burden on law enforcement, and/or affect the quality of life in the surrounding communities. Orange County Sheriff’s Department Receives Grant for County-Wide DUI Enforcement Campaign 

SANTA ANA, CA – (October 18, 2013) – Drunk and drugged driving remains the number one killer on our roadways with 774 deaths and over 24,000 injuries. The “Avoid the 13” DUI Task Force will be combating this deadly problem through DUI enforcement efforts in Orange County. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be administering a recent $114,232 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to cover DUI enforcement operations within the department’s 13 contract cities.  Continue reading→

UPDATED: Sources at City Hall have advised that the burlesque show set for Nov. 6, 2013, likely will not happen as The Copper Door has not yet acquired an Enertainment Permit that will allow them to proceed.  I am told that the SAPD will shut down this event if they have to.  Burlesque is allowed in Santa Ana if it doesn’t violate the adult entertainment ordinance, which prohibits the exposure of specific body parts.
