Results of Independence Day Weekend Enforcement Operations
DUI arrests up from last year’s totals
SANTA ANA, CA (July 9, 2013) – The Independence Day Holiday anti-DUI enforcement operations has resulted in an increase in DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special ‘Avoid the 38’ DUIdeployments in Orange County.
From 12:01 a.m., Wednesday July 3, 2013 through midnight Sunday 7, 2013 officers representing 38 Orange County law enforcement agencies have arrested 247 individuals for driving under the influence of alcoholand/or drugs. Santa Ana Councilman David Benavides is apparently pushing for a modification to the City of Santa Ana’s Proposed Alcohol and Entertainment Ordinance that I can at best call irresponsible and ridiculous. Click here to read what Benavides is proposing.
Benavides wants to allow after-hours alcohol sales up to 4 am. Currently bars in town have to close up at 2 am at the latest.

The Orange County Equality Coalition (OCEC) is once again hosting the Orange County Pride Festival in Santa Ana, on August 10, 2013, from 12 noon to 10 pm, on Fourth Street, between Broadway and Ross in Santa Ana, CA.
The free festival will be a full day event from 12pm to 10pm in order to accommodate time for festival goers to enjoy all that the event has to offer. There will be hours of high energy performances on the main stage, over a dozen DJ’s playing various music selections in two dance areas, hundreds of exhibitor tents, a beer and wine garden, a family friendly Kids Club, interesting and educational workshops at our Rainbow Symposium and delicious food from local vendors. SAPD DUI ENFORCEMENT on Saturday, June 8th, 2013
The Santa Ana Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Saturday, June 8th, 2013. It will begin at 7:30PM and is scheduled to conclude at 1:30AM. It will be conducted in the area of 1000 E. Fourth Street, in the City of Santa Ana.
The primary purpose of a DUI Checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, not to increase arrests. All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. The DMV reports that unlicensed drivers are 4.9 times more likely to cause a fatal crash than a licensed driver. Continue reading
