Get your FREE Flu Shot!

Do you still need to get your flu shot this year? Chairman Andrew Do is hosting three FREE flu shot clinics to help the community prepare for flu season. These clinics are open to the public and provide shots at no cost. OC Health Care Agency nurses administer all vaccines on a first come, first serve basis.

The flu or influenza is a serious illness. It is more than just a runny nose and sore throat. The flu can make you very sick and cause you to go to the hospital or even lead to death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months and older get the flu vaccine (flu shot). You can protect yourself and those around you by getting a flu shot. Orange County Speeds up Delivery of Non-English Ballots 2-Week Translation Delay Reduced to as Little as 48 Hours

Santa Ana, California – Orange County is making it easier for non-English speaking communities to exercise their right to vote.

This election, the Orange County Registrar of Voters has dramatically improved the delivery times for non-English vote-by-mail ballots, providing Vietnamese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Tagalog and Farsi speakers more time to review their election materials. In previous elections, non-English voters waited nearly two weeks longer than English speakers to receive their ballots. Continue reading→

OC Animal Care Accepts $100,000 Grant for Neonatal Kitten Care

On Saturday, OC Animal Care accepted a $100,000 “Save Them All” kitten grant from Best Friends Animal Society. The grant money will contribute to expanding OC Animal Care’s foster caretaker program and its program for neonatal, bottle-fed kittens.

The funds will be put towards spay and neuter services, all medical care, vaccinations, microchip and antibiotics for neonatal kittens. OC Animal Care’s goal will always be to find permanent, loving homes for all animals at the OC Animal Care shelter, and this grant takes us one step closer to that goal. Continue reading→

Santa Ana, California – The County of Orange is installing new fencing at 24 sites along flood control channels to keep neighborhoods safe and prevent homeless encampments.

Supervisor Andrew Do, Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, worked with city leaders, county staff and law enforcement agencies on the fencing projects in Santa Ana, Garden Grove and Westminster after reports of criminal activity, including a series of fires set by a homeless arsonist. Vandalism Targeted at Buddhist Temples in Santa Ana Declared a Hate Crime by OC District Attorney

This past weekend a number of Buddhist temples in Santa Ana were vandalized, causing extensive damage to religious statues and other temple property. Law enforcement officials have footage of a suspect in the act of vandalizing and are asking for help from the community in locating the individual.

The targeting of Buddhist temples is cause of great concern for the Vietnamese-American Community in Orange County. Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas will be announcing that he will consider these criminal conducts as possible hate crime. If convicted, this will lead to greater punishments for the offender(s). Continue reading→

Nationwide Foundation donates $65K to a homeless shelter in Santa Ana

Nationwide Foundation Donates to OC Homeless Shelter

The Nationwide Foundation is helping Orange County provide assistance to the homeless community

On Monday, August 20, Nationwide Foundation will present a $65,000 check to The Midnight Mission to install a pet area at Orange County’s Courtyard homeless shelter, one of the few homeless shelters in Orange County that accepts pets. There aren’t many places for homeless people with pets to go. As a result, many choose to continue living on the streets, where they don’t have the same access to services. Nationwide Foundation, The Midnight Mission and Orange County look forward to breaking ground on the project and reaching more of the Orange County homeless community. Continue reading→

Santa Ana, California – Orange County has approved filing a lawsuit to stop a state-approved drug needle giveaway in Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Orange and Santa Ana.

In an emergency meeting on Friday, the Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Board of Supervisors Chairman Andrew Do’s proposal to seek a legal injunction to stop the dangerous mobile needle giveaway, which is set to begin on Monday, August 6. Continue reading→

Homelessness: County Approves $1.6 Million to Prevent Return of Riverbed & Civic Center Encampments

Orange County is taking steps to prevent the return of homeless encampments at the Santa Ana Civic Center and Riverbed, which were permanently cleared earlier this year.

Today, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved $1.6 million for supportive housing services for homeless individuals that were removed from the Santa Ana Riverbed and Civic Center. In March, the county cleared 13,950 needles, 400 tons of debris and 5,279 pounds of hazardous waste from the Riverbed encampment. Continue reading→

Orange County Bolsters Mental Health Support Services

Orange County is bolstering its non-crisis mental health support hotline after experiencing a 56 percent surge in non-emergency calls last year.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors approved a new contract today that will provide more than a half-million dollars in funding for OC Warmline, a free and confidential non-crisis service for residents that are experiencing a mental health problem or behavioral health issue. Continue reading→

Santa Ana’s Civic Center has finally been cleansed of the homeless squatters

The Santa Ana Civic Center has been cleared of all encampments. I visited the Plaza of the Flags with Orange County CEO Frank Kim to see the now uninhabited area.

The Orange County Health Care Agency in partnership with the City of Santa Ana Police Department completed 234 assessments of homeless individuals residing in the Civic Center Plaza. The individuals have been placed in a variety of programs including the Courtyard Transitional Shelter, Bridges at Kramer Place, SAFEPlace and more. 135 individuals declined services.
