Santa Ana’s homeless shelter is getting more restrooms and showers

New restrooms and showers will be coming to the only walk-in emergency homeless shelter in Orange County.

Today, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved the installation of a new 7-unit restroom facility and 8-unit shower facility at the Courtyard Transitional Center in Santa Ana. In October 2016, Supervisor Andrew Do spearheaded the effort to open the emergency shelter in Santa Ana, which now houses as many as 450 homeless each night and has transitioned 281 people to long-term housing.

In addition to short-term steps to increase restrooms and showers at Orange County’s only emergency homeless shelter, County Supervisors approved an additional $3.48 million for recuperative care beds as part of the county’s Whole Person Care pilot program. The total is now $8.38 million towards recuperative care for the homeless. Continue reading→

O.C. Job Fair set for March 22 in Garden Grove

Job Fair this Thursday

On Thursday, March 22nd, Chairman Andrew Do’s Office will host the 2018 Central Orange County Job Fair. If you or anyone you know is looking for employment, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet local employers and submit resumes in-person.

The event will take place at the Garden Grove Community Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue, in Garden Grove, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Admission is free along with parking and professional resume critiques. A priority registration table will be available for veterans. Continue reading→

The County of Orange will spend $70M to set up more homeless housing outside of Santa Ana

Homelessness Update

On Monday, the Orange County Board of Supervisors directed staff to use $70.5 million of Mental Health Services Act funds for supportive housing and shelter for our homeless.

Chairman Do Sponsors Health Fair in Santa Ana

Representing the largest population of CalOptima recipients, Chairman Andrew Do championed CalOptima, our county organized health system, to conduct the most extensive member health needs assessment in the agency’s 22-year history.

That assessment revealed areas in need of improvement. The results found that 41% didn’t see a dentist because of cost, 25% didn’t have or know of a dentist, 28% said it takes too long to get an appointment, among other findings. Continue reading→

Homeless Response: In 24 months, Orange County will open $26 million mental health facility

O.C.’s first publicly-owned mental health treatment facility

Santa Ana, Calif. (February 28, 2018) — With its largest homeless encampment now dismantled, Orange County is moving forward with a $26 million investment in the county’s first publicly-owned mental health treatment facility, to be located at 265 S. Anita Drive, in Orange, CA.

On Tuesday, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of an office building in Orange that will be renovated into a treatment center for people with mental health and substance abuse problems. Continue reading→

The OC Supervisors direct $15M for mental health housing to aid the homeless

Chairman Andrew Do and Vice Chairman Shawn Nelson directed the Orange County Health Care Agency to use $15 million of available unspent Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) funds for mental health housing projects. This funding is aimed at increasing the number of mental health housing units available in Orange County to house chronically homeless individuals with severe mental illnesses.

The directive was introduced by Chairman Andrew Do and seconded by Vice Chairman Shawn Nelson, both of whom have worked collaboratively to bring this to the Board of Supervisors. The Board approved the motion unanimously. This additional funding will be critical in completing future projects for MHSA Housing. Continue reading→

Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, who represents the First District, is hosting a Free Flu Vaccine event on Oct. 27, 2017 at the Delhi Center, located at 505 E. Central Ave., in Santa Ana.

Come out and help beautify Santa Ana on Saturday, Oct. 7. Santa Ana City Councilman Juan Villegas, who represents Ward 5, and Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, who represents the First District, are teaming up to host a Graffiti Paint Out and Community Clean up Day on Oct. 7.

Santa Ana resident appointed to the O.C. Emergency Medical Care Committee

Santa Ana resident Flor Roman appointed to the OC Assessment Appeals Board

At the Board of Supervisor’s Meeting Tuesday, Santa Ana resident Flor Roman was appointed by Supervisor Andrew Do to the Assessment Appeals Board No. 3.

Flor Roman was born and raised in Mexico City, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration before immigrating to the United States in 1990. Flor has had extensive experience in the financial and real estate fields. In 1995, Roman joined Maxwell Real Estate in Santa Ana and obtained her Real Estate Broker’s License. In 1999, Roman acquired Maxwell Real Estate and changed the name to Roman Realtors & Financial Services, Inc., where she now serves Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, with the same enthusiasm, dedication, and professionalism that has helped propel her to great heights in the real estate industry. County Approves Plan to Help Homeless on the Riverbed

On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors (Board) approved the homeless ad-hoc committee’s proposal to create a six month pilot program, which is designed to position the County as the lead in providing the Continuum of Care services needed to assist our citizens out of homelessness.

The homeless ad-hoc committee consisting of Supervisor Do and Supervisor Spitzer proposed this pilot program as a step towards a comprehensive plan to end homelessness, especially in encampments around the County. Continue reading→
