Anaheim – The 35th Annual Orange County Black History Parade and Cultural Faire will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Downtown Anaheim. The event celebrates African American heritage and Black History Month. The day will be filled with learning and fun for the whole family and is enjoyed by people of all ethnicities in the Southland.
Parade viewers are encouraged to arrive early and bring a portable chair to get a prime viewing spot. The parade steps off at 10: 00 AM on Anaheim Boulevard at Lincoln Avenue, continues south past Anaheim City Hall and ends at Santa Ana Street. Continue reading→

Bowers Museum Presents Lecture Series on Early 20th Century American Art
Insightful Six-Week Program Starts Wednesday, January 28 in Santa Ana
The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana is presenting a special six part lecture series about Early 20th Century American Art, which will take place on consecutive Wednesdays at 11:15 am, starting on January 28 and ending March 11.
This exciting series will cover significant American art movements, including the Ashcan School, Modernism and the Avant-garde, the Harlem Renaissance, American Regionalism, Abstract Expressionism, Neo-Dada and Pop Art. Among the artists who will be discussed in this series are Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. Continue reading→
Santa Ana artist Theo Hirsch has published a new post about the owner of the Santora building, Jack Jakosky, and I learned a few things while reading it.
It turns out that “Jakosky comes to the Santora building himself, with his girlfriend weekdays and weekends, in order to shut down the building and lock the bathrooms.” Jakosky is a very wealthy man, but he comes to Santa Ana himself to secure the Santora building? That is pretty odd.
While Jakosky has cleaned up and repaired the Santora he has also killed what used to be a fun art scene at the venerable arts building. As Theo pointed out, the Santora now looks like a jail. Continue reading→
The second Annual Plaza Navideña will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Plaza Santa Ana from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The event is a holiday celebration with live entertainment, food, piñatas for the kids, and a visit from Santa Claus.

Kidseum Celebrates 20 Years with a Grand Reopening on December 7, 2014
Santa Ana, Calif. — The Bowers Museum is proud to announce that it will celebrate Kidseum’s 20th anniversary with a whole new look and programming for the 21st century. Kidseum will be high-tech and interactive with a focus on it’s new mission, “Igniting imagination through exploration,” stressing the excitement of art and archeology.
A few of the many new areas to explore include the “Green Screen Time Machine,” where children and their families can travel to the world’s most historic sites on a Wells Fargo Stagecoach. Visitors to Kidseum will be able to experience the famous 45,000 year old Caves of Lascaux, France in a unique Glow Cave with special glow-in-the-dark projects. Continue reading→

Brea, CA — Nov. 25, 2014 — Orange County residents can catch a performance by dance company, Embark Dance Theatre (EDT), at the Patchwork artisan craft festival in downtown Santa Ana on 2nd and Sycamore St on Sunday, Nov. 30th. Mr. Marlantes will be interviewed by Mary Menzel, Director of the California Center for the Book. Mr. Marlantes is a Vietnam Veteran, a Rhodes Scholar, and the author of the New York Times best-selling novel Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War.
