Premier of John Woo’s new movie, Red Cliff, in Santa Ana tomorrow!

“​Chinese master action film director John Woo, who achieved cult status with Dip huet seung hung (The Killer) before taking on Face/Off, Mission: Impossible II and other American projects, makes a special appearance at the West Coast premiere of his new film Chi bi (Red Cliff) Thursday night at Regency South Coast Village Theatre,” according to the OC Weekly.

This is the West Coast premiere of Red Cliff. The screening takes place on Thursday, October 15th, 2009 – 8:00pm, at the Regency South Coast Village Theatre, located at 1561 W. Sunflower Ave, in Santa Ana.

City of Santa Ana votes to organize and produce 2010 Fiestas Patrias

“The City Council voted last week to organize and produce official Fiestas Patrias gatherings in town next year, including a signature two-day festival that draws more than 200,000 visitors to the downtown area every September,” according to the O.C. Register.

The Fiestas Patrias will be quite special next year – “Fall 2010 marks two important milestones for our neighbor to the south: 200 years of independence from Spain and the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.”

While the City of Santa Ana won’t be spending money on the event, they will be working hard to ensure that the event goes off smoothly without any problems. Continue reading→

The event will include Wine, Music and Silent Horror Classic Movies, and special Artist’s Presentations by: Brett Barrett, Paul Brogden, Tamara Lujan, Mulder 142, Bryan Shoening, David Russell Talbott, and Dark Vomit.

Calacas Day of the Dead art exhibit

Santa Ana’s Calacas store has announced an opening reception for a new Day of the Dead art exhibit coming up this Saturday, Oct. 3, from 7 pm to 10 pm.  The festivities will include an appearance by “La Catrina.”  The exhibit will run through October 7.

The Light Impressions Archival Workshop is coming to the Old Orange County Courthouse on Saturday, October 3, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

 

Join us for the 5th annual workshop to learn about the newest and best archival practices! This workshop is intended for both volunteers and professionals who work with historical collections. Provisional Art

ProVISIONal Art is opning at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art on Saturday, October 3rd, from 6:00pm – 10:00pm.

Provisional art is a response by the fine art community to the dominancy of commercial art. The 21st century genre is not unlike Dada and Abstract Expressionism, looking to redefine and innovate. Provisional works explore negation. They may be risky, perhaps they collapse beneath the weight of art school dogma, appearing unfinished or tentative, yet reflect the humble beauty of the temporary. Ultimately, the juried works for OCCCA’s proVISIONal Art fly in the face of current art practices, evoking strategies that do not apply to, but rather reply to mainstream conventions. Roosters Foundation

“Concert for the Kids,” presented by the Roosters Foundation of Orange County will take place at the OC Pavilion and Ambrosia Restaurant.

The evening includes a Reception, tantalizing auctions, hosted dinner at the Ambrosia Restaurant for up to 150 and Appetizers & drinks, for more than 350 additional guests. All of this includes a fabulous show.

This year’s concert will headline Jana Nordstrom with the British band, Infinity Rising, which served as the private band aboard the Yacht, Britannia for Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II. Surely they have a few royal tidbits to share as a part of their cabaret, “The Greatest Songs of the 20th Century”. The opening act of the Mike McCaffrey Trio will perform “The Songs and Stories of Frank Sinatra and Nat “King” Cole”. “Expect to experience unavoidable smiles, tears, and wonderful memories,” said Mike McCaffrey.

The synergy created by charities working together at an event like this is highly rewarding for all and our event’s sphere of influence goes far beyond Roosters, the charity boards & constituents and is a rallying point for the entire Orange County community. Continue reading→

The Santa Ana Artists Village Open House is this Saturday night!

The Santa Ana Artist Village Art Walk is held every first Saturday of the month, rain or shine. The event starts at 7pm and runs through 10 p.m.

This is free for all to attend and enjoy the atmosphere. Come, introduce yourself to a local artist, invite your friends, grab a bite, lot’s to do in Santa Ana Artist’s Village.

Parking can be found in the ‘Artists Village Parking Structure’ at Third Street and Broadway.

Walk through the galleries and studios, see a live performance or just hang out and enjoy the music.

Santa Ana’s Discovery Science Center is hosting a Day of the Dead exhibit starting on Oct. 17, through Nov. 8, called “Skeletons.”

Spooky Science: Skeletons.  October 17 – November 8: Mixing science, art and culture, our newest exhibition will showcase the science under your skin! Spooky Science: Skeletons will highlight “Dia de los Muertos” art and activities, while incorporating hands-on science lessons. Special events will be held on weekends throughout the exhibition.

“Happy Endings are Extra,” a new stage production by Ashraf Johaardien, is opening at Santa Ana’s Empire Theatre, located at 202 N. Broadway, Santa Ana, on Friday, Oct. 2.  The Theatre Out production will run through Oct. 25.   

Johaardien’s drama concerns a middle-aged Cape Town bisexual who falls under the spell of a teenage male prostitute. As the man’s infatuation boils over into obsession, his carefully compartmentalized emotional life crumbles, wrecking his relationship with his longtime girlfriend. (Chicago Reader). Children First seeking volunteer nurses and doctors for health screenings at El Sol Academy

El Sol Science and Art Academy

Children First, A Merage Foundation, is recruiting active volunteer Nurse Practitioners, Pediatricians and Family Doctors for an innovative health screening program at El Sol Science and Arts Academy, a unique Charter School in Santa Ana.

Health screenings link family members often for the first time to a health care system.

The Merage Foundation encourages and facilitates the use of the tremendous skills and resources of Orange County’s retired citizens to significantly improve the early childhood development opportunities for children from Orange County’s low-income families. Through the Foundation, retirees make important contributions to innovative early childhood development providers that serve needy children, enhancing quality of life and fostering a sense of supportive community throughout Orange County.

Information about the Best Nursing Schools is available with this resource to help you to learn how you could become a nurse as well. Great nurses are always needed, and you could be one of the people to make a difference to children who need medical assistance.

Screening Summary:

  • Nurse Practitioners and Doctors identify health problems helping to
    prevent disease and improve health
  • Nurse Practitioners and Doctors work with promotores (coaches) to refer
    families to medical homes
  • Nurse Practitioners and Doctors have flexible options for volunteering
