BUBBLEFEST SPECTACULAR RETURNS TO DISCOVERY CUBE OC – SHOW PREMIERES IN NEW $3.9 MILLION SHOWCASE THEATER

WHAT: Discovery Cube OC’s spring break spectacular, Bubblefest XIX, is returning and will host the annual Mega Bubblefest Laser Show inside the brand new Julianne Argyros Showcase Theater. This family-friendly event will feature the Mega Bubblefest Laser Show, performed by Bubble Scientist Deni Yang, hands-on bubble exhibits, an “under 5” Cube Jr. learning area, adult sized water spheres, and outdoor entertainment. Bubble-enthusiasts of all ages will learn the science based concepts of bubble-making with participatory learning, experiments, and plenty of bubble making. Continue reading→

DeColores Queer Orange County & The Frida Cinema Invite you to : Anything for Salinas!” A Tribute to Selena. A Special One Night Only Fundraiser Event and Screening of “Selena” The Movie, on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 7 pm, at Frida Cinema, located at 305 E. 4th St., in DTSA.

To commemorate Selena’s life 20 years after her passing, we want to honor her by inviting the community to this fun-filled event! Folks are encouraged to dress up as Selena or an inspired costume there will be contests.

We will be raising funds to support local high school Gay Straight Alliance groups (GSAs) as well as for The Zoraida Reyes Scholarship fund that supports local Transgender individuals. Continue reading→

You know, I have never even met Ryan Chase? And if I did see him in real life, I probably wouldn’t even know the difference unless he introduced himself. Saw him speak at a city council meeting about that stupid train they’re building through 4th st. (BTW, public transportation and the corporate elite forcing us to drive and own cars in order to get by in this stupid So. Cal. Economy, is a whole other rant I could go on and on about for like a hundred pages) one time, but I didn’t get a look at his face as I believe he was sitting in back of me, then he jetted off right after he talked. Do the people of Santa Ana want a Drinking District or a Wellness District?

Downtown Santa Ana merchants and community groups, including Building Healthy Communities, will be at this Tuesday’s Santa Ana City Council meeting, to propose that the city establish a Downtown Wellness District strategy to foster retail and services that are authentic to our city’s Latino character, according to the O.C. Register.

The idea is to serve the people of Santa Ana and further diversify the visitors coming to DTSA by rebranding the area as Calle Cuatro Marketplace.”

We have been saying for some time that the hipster gentrification of DTSA has not served the majority of our residents and has in fact been part of an ongoing effort to push Latinos out of DTSA and cater to people who don’t live here. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA, CA – The Bowers Museum is currently upgrading many of the historic galleries in its Mary Muth Wing, which will reopen with an exciting series of exhibitions in 2015, starting in April with the highly-anticipated Adams, Curtis and Weston: Photographers of the American West exhibit. In order to take advantage of the progress of the renovation, the Bowers will mount a special Treasures of Veracruz exhibit opening Saturday, March 14, which will showcase eight Pre-Columbian artifacts from the museum’s permanent collection. The Bowers Museum invites you to a Free Celtic Family Festival on Sunday, March 1 from 11am to 4pm. This family-friendly celebration is free and fun for all ages, and will feature children’s art activities, live music by the Innisfree Irish Band and award-winning bagpipe musician Forrest Cormany. The event will also feature a special presentation by the Butler-Fearon-O’Connor School of Irish Dance, which has been named the number one Irish dance school in the United States. The Free Celtic Family Festival includes free admission to both the Bowers Museum and the Bowers Kidseum, and the first 1,500 attendees will receive free admission to the specially-ticketed China’s Lost Civilization: The Mystery of Sanxingdui exhibit. Bowers Museum to “Go Red” with the American Heart Association for the 13th Annual National Go Red Day on Friday, February 6th

SANTA ANA, CALIF. – The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana will be among the numerous locations nationwide to “Go Red” on Friday, February 6, as part of the 13th Annual American Heart Association Go Red Day promoting women’s heart health. Starting on February 6, the Bowers Museum’s iconic Mission-style Bell Tower will be bathed in brilliant red light to help raise awareness about the importance of heart health among women. Located at 2002 N. Main St. in Santa Ana, the Bowers Museum is a familiar sight for thousands of daily commuters driving along Main Street.

The annual Go Red For Women campaign raises awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, and encourages them to take preventive measures to reduce their risk. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women and those who love them, to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. On a national level, the Go Red For Women movement has resulted in 650,000 women’s lives being saved over the last 10 years. Continue reading→
