AB 1166 Passes Assembly Education Committee with Bi-Partisan Vote

SACRAMENTO – State Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim) today presented to the Assembly Committee on Education AB 1166, a bill that would clarify that a school cannot include any information on a student identification card — or any object that a student is required to carry at school — that reflects their performance on standardized tests or course grades. Recent updates to the $2 billion program expected to help more families remain in their homes

ANAHEIM – State Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim) wants constituents to be aware that the “Keep Your Home California” program has expanded eligibility for homeowners struggling to remain in their homes.

We started the tradition of asking our readers to vote for the “Santa Ana Man of the Year” last year, when my friend Naui Huitzilopochtli won easily.  I believe he now lives in Costa Mesa, so he won’t be repeating – but we do have some great choices in the poll below.

Who is Julio Perez?

Who is Julio Perez?  He is the virtually unknown Democrat and labor consultant running to replace Jose Solorio in the 69th Assembly District.

His endorsers are a Who’s Who of failed Santa Ana mayoral candidate Al Amezcua’s backers and other lame Democrats.  However Perez could affect this race by handing the primary election to Tom Daly, a truly terrible Democrat who is as bad as most Republicans when it comes to immigrants and the working poor.  If Perez takes enough Latino votes from leading candidate Michele Martinez, who is a Santa Ana Council Member, the vote split could put Daly on top.

Santa Ana’s unionized service employees stick it to the people of Santa Ana

Santa Ana’s service workers are going all in with the unknown Julio Perez

The City of Santa Ana’s service employees aren’t happy with City Manager Paul Walters and our City Council – “”The day after council members approved the new agreement with service employees, union leaders announced their endorsement of Julio Perez, who is running against Martinez and Orange County Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly for the 69th Assembly District seat,” according to the Voice of OC.

Imagine that.  These union workers have decided to stick it to the people of Santa Ana by endorsing a candidate from Anaheim, Perez, instead of Councilwoman Martinez, who grew up here, graduated from our schools, and still lives here.  Amazing. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA – On a Saturday evening this holiday season, 25 outstanding high school seniors were recognized as “Solorio Scholars” at the Delhi Center in Santa Ana. The evening capped an intense college application season made easier for the Solorio Scholars through personalized help with their college applications and up to $250 for college application fees. My sources are telling me that a Political Action Committee run by an organization that calls itself SOAR (Support our Anaheim Resort) is the main driver behind Orange County Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly’s campaign for the 69th Assembly District.

Who is SOAR?  According to their website:

SOAR is a broad coalition of local business owners, community leaders and Anaheim residents. Its mission is to educate area residents about the Resort District and the critical services it funds such as police, fire, and paramedics. Continue reading→

State’s Department of Water Resources Heeds State Assemblyman Jose Solorio’s Call to Pay OC for Flood Control Projects

Already arriving reimbursement funds will total $51.8 million by end of January

Anaheim – State Assemblyman Jose Solorio’s (D-Anaheim) pursuit to find more state resources for the cash-strapped County of Orange has led to a significant payout to the county by the State of California. Flood control “subvention” claims from Orange County to the state totaling approximately $80 million are on their way, with $51.8 million, representing six Santa Ana River claims, in county coffers by the end of January. These represent funds that had previously been stalled at the state for several Santa Ana River and main-channel project claims. Continue reading→

Will Daly’s allies attack Perez because he supports Mexican immigrants?

I received a tip this week that forces allied with Orange Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly are looking for pictures of one of his Democratic opponents for the 69th Assembly District, Julio Perez, a labor consultant.

What sort of pictures?  They want pictures of Perez riding a car in the Santa Ana parade.  Not just any car – it was a car that was entered in the parade by the Institute for Mexicans Living Abroad, of which Perez is an elected board member (OC Weekly). Continue reading→
