Actions Speak Louder Than Words: Councilmen Benavides & Sarmiento Are Bad for Labor and for Business!
I wrote previously about how Council Members Benavides and Sarmiento didn’t share with the Orange County Labor leaders that they did a ton of contracting out to private companies this year, like street sweeping, parking enforcement, and emergency medical transportation – killing hundreds of union jobs. But they were given the labor endorsement by the failed political labor staff over at the OC Labor Federation, Teferi Gebre and Julio Perez, who didn’t review their anti-labor voting records. Cleaning up caribou roadkill?
The loudest, crudest supporter of the Little Sparrow, at the Santa Ana Planning Commission meeting earlier this week, was a guy named Nathan Hittle, according to several eyewitnesses. Who is Hittle? That is quite a story actually.
Hittle is the head of the Downtown Santa Ana Restaurants Association. Don’t bother trying to find their website – they don’t have one. They are affiliated with Downtown, Inc., the organization that spends the money collected via the unethical Downtown Santa Ana PBID tax.
How did Hittle end up in such a lofty position? It is a very good question considering that in 2003 he was a Santa Ana Animal Control officer. Continue reading
Santa Ana City Council candidate Roman Reyna was not the only candidate that skipped out on the recent Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce Candidates Forum. It turns out that Council Member Vincent Sarmiento also had better things to do than meet with the city’s business owners, according to the Voice of OC. Even though Sarmiento posted about the forum on his own Facebook page!
To be fair, his opponent, Estela Amezcua, was absent too, but she is not really running much of a campaign. Sarmiento, on the other hand, just sent voters a four page glossy mailer about himself. Continue reading
