Wells Fargo volunteers planting over 100 trees at Santiago Park today

More than 100 volunteers will gather tomorrow to plant 160 trees in honor of Earth Day and to mark Wells Fargo’s 160th anniversary

Santa Ana, Calif. (April 20, 2012) – Back to Natives Restoration today announced a $10,000 donation from Wells Fargo in support of the nonprofit’s efforts to preserve and restore Orange County and California’s wild lands through local education and restoration projects. The grant will be celebrated with the planting of 160 trees at Santiago Park in Santa Ana, Calif., in honor Earth Day and Wells Fargo’s milestone anniversary of 160 years of helping customers succeed financially and communities thrive. One thing that separates Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez’ campaign for the 69th Assembly District, from that of liberal candidate Julio Perez, is the ample support she is receiving from local businessmen.  Perez is almost entirely funded by unions – the same unions who regularly advocate for more regulations, higher taxes and other job-killing mechanisms.

CITY OF SANTA ANA HELPS LOCAL BUSINESSES WITH LOCAL PREFERENCE ORDINANCE 

SANTA ANA, CA (March 6, 2012) – The Santa Ana City Council voted unanimously at its March 5th meeting to give preference to local businesses on qualifying city contracts. “The City Council supports business friendly principles and we’re taking active steps to help local companies succeed,” said Councilwoman Michele Martinez. 

The ordinance provides a new incentive for local businesses. Santa Ana businesses will be given a 7% preference when they bid on City contracts. And Orange County based businesses can be eligible for a 4% preference. “We help our businesses, as well as the City, when we keep dollars in the community” explained Councilman Vincent Sarmiento. “Studies show that these benefits are multiplied within the community and will have a positive effect for many within the City” added Councilman David Benavides.  Continue reading→

CA Supreme Court punts the Usual Suspects’ One Broadway Plaza lawsuit

“The California Supreme Court has declined to hear an activist group’s lawsuit to block construction of One Broadway Plaza, a planned 37-story office tower near downtown Santa Ana,” according to the Voice of OC. 

The Coalition for Accountable Government Ethics (CAGE) had sued to stop developer Mile Harrah from proceeding with the project, arguing that the Santa Ana City Council illegally removed a condition that Harrah lease 50 percent of the building before beginning construction. Continue reading→

First O.C. Genki Sushi to open at Santa Ana’s MainPlace Mall on 2/21

Genki Sushi is opening their first Orange County restaurant at the Westfield MainPlace Mall, in Santa Ana, on February 21, 2012.  They are located on the first floor, over by JC Penney, on the north end of the Mall.

Walmart not planning to fill the Food for Less vacancy in NE Santa Ana

Walmart is opening two new stores in Orange County, in Irvine and in Huntington Beach, according to the O.C. Register.  Walmart also recently opened a new superstore in Anaheim.  But there is no truth to the rumor that they are planning to open a store at the vacancy created when Food for Less closed their store in northeast Santa Ana, on Grand and 17th, according to Karen Haluza, a Planning Manager at the City of Santa Ana.

Will the owner of the Seabirds food truck open a restaurant in Santa Ana?

Could the vegan Seabirds Food Truck be coming soon to Santa Ana – with a brick and mortar location?  The O.C. Register’s Fast Food Maven is reporting that Stephanie Morgan, owner of Costa Mesa’s vegan food truck Seabirds, told her several weeks ago that she is scouting locations in Orange County to open a brick and mortar restaurant!
