The North Left, the downtown Santa Ana restaurant that replaced The Crosby after the awful murder of one of their patrons, who was literally kicked to death outside the restaurant by two women in 2014, has closed their doors according to the O.C. Register.
The owners, Phil Nisco, Chris Alfaro and Marc Yamaoka, hired Ryan Adams, a Laguna Beach chef at Three Seventy Common, to oversee the new operations at North Left, which opened pretty quickly after The Crosby shut down. Continue reading
One of the Hometown Buffet locations in Santa Ana (at 2321 South Bristol St.) has closed down, just weeks after their parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to the O.C. Register.
HomeTown Buffet’s parent company, Ovation, third Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection filing in eight years last month. They may close up to 300 locations of restaurants that include Old Country Buffet, Ryan’s, Fire Mountain and Tahoe Joe’s, according to CNBC. Continue reading

Ralphs, the Kroger-owned grocery chain, is closing their last grocery store in Santa Ana, at 2741 W. MacArthur Blvd., on Oct. 23, according to the O.C. Register.
Ralphs closed a popular location on 17th St. and Bristol a few years ago. That store is now a Smart and Final. The Kroger company also closed a popular Food 4 Less location on Grand and 17th a few years ago. That site remains empty today.

Magdy and his wife, Fiby, Towfeless met in Eqypt over 28 years ago. He went on to develop a very successful career in aerospace engineering. Madgy purchased an Italian restaurant in Anaheim back in 2006 and moved it to Santa Ana. Bella Marri’s Ristorante Italiano opened in its new digs at 1631 E. 17th St., in north Santa Ana, in May of this year.
My wife Camille and I had dinner at Bella Marri’s tonight and we had a chance to talk to Magdy and Fiby and their son Tim. Their other son, Marvin, is at UC Riverside where he is finishing a degree in Bio Med Engineering. Continue reading

THREE DEFENDANTS CHARGED WITH CONSPIRING TO UNDERPAY EMPLOYEES ON PUBLIC WORKS PROJECTS
SANTA ANA, Calif. – Three defendants have been charged for underpaying employees on public works projects. No Sung Pak, 74, Hollywood, and Michael John Ferrin, 40, San Pedro, and Scott Sung Yang, 44, Los Angeles, are each charged with five felony counts of taking and receiving a portion of a worker’s wage on public works and one felony count of recording a false forged instrument. Pak is additionally charged with 29 felony counts of willful failure to pay tax, two felony counts of misrepresenting facts to State Compensation Insurance Fund (SCIF), two felony counts of misrepresenting facts to workers’ compensation insurance company. If convicted, Pak faces a maximum sentence of 27 years and four months in state prison, and Ferrin and Yang each face a maximum sentence of five years and four months in state prison. The defendants are out of custody on $50,000 bail and were arraigned today. They are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 1, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
In 2005, Yang owned and operated Mackone Development. Yang is accused of working with Ferrin as his project superintendent to oversee his projects. Pak, who owns the business Pak’s Cabinets, is accused of working for Mackone Development as a subcontractor on several public works projects. Continue reading
