Newsong and Illumination Christmas Event

The Illumination Foundation is holding a Holiday Carnival for the families in Santa Ana on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, from 9 am to 4 pm, at 1215 N. Ross St. in Santa Ana.  Santa Ana’s Newsong/10Ten Church will be feeding the families with a potluck!  Sign ups are on Doodle.

The Illumnination Foundation is looking for energetic individuals and volunteer groups to help run the kids’ crafts/activities during this festive event. Bank of America Charitable Foundation Awards $222,600 in Grants to 16 Orange County Nonprofit Organizations

Grants will help individuals with basic human services and build better financial lives

ORANGE COUNTY – The Bank of America Charitable Foundation today announced $222,600 in grants to 16 nonprofits in Orange County to help individuals and families build better financial lives. These grants will support the fight against hunger, access to housing and other basic human service initiatives that help communities thrive.

Basic human services, along with community and workforce development are top priorities because there is significant need in these areas in Orange County and across the country. According to the nonprofits grantees, more than 370,000 individuals will be impacted by the funding that serves low and moderate income residents. Continue reading→

Santa Ana Monarchs Pee Wee Cheer Team

Santa Ana Pop Warner is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to serving the youth of our community. Academics, athletics & good sportsmanship are our primary objectives. Our organization continuously grows and improves each year not just as great athletes but well rounded individuals. This organization is making a positive impact in the community by making a positive change in our youth through Football & Cheer.

This year we are fortunate to have a Pee Wee Cheer Team composed of 17 young ladies who are all academically performing at averages of 3.5 GPA while training over 5 hours a week. They have beat adversity and obstacles to get to where they are now; a strong squad that has earned the opportunity to represent Monarch Cheer Team and Santa Ana at a National Competition in Orlando Florida from December 5th – December 11th . The team has won 1st Place at the Local Level in October, and recently won 2nd Place at Regional’s Competition this past weekend in Long Beach. They came in as the underdogs and won their pass to attend Nationals. Continue reading→

Veterans Day will be even more special this year in Orange County as a group of real estate professionals has stepped up to help a pair of Veterans who happen to be married – and who suffered an unbelievable calamity.

Chris Winterton has served our Country is the United States Army for 11 years as a Staff Sargent with the 1/211 Out of Utah and with the 116th Secor while deployed in Iraq. His wife Sarah, who also served, is currently with the National Guard.

Chris and Sarah met while serving and they were married in 2011. During his 11 years of service, Chris helped build schools in Nicaragua, helped here at home with Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts and deployed to Iraq in 2007. It was during this time tragedy stuck. Chris was injured suffering a traumatic brain injury (tbi) and was hospitalized. But he did not give up! In 2012 he deployed to Afghanistan, just 6 days after his son was born, to serve another tour. Unfortunately, his injuries sustained in Iraq caught up to him and he had to take a medical discharge from his career serving our country. He now deals on a daily basis with supporting his family, PTSD and TBI. Continue reading→

Labor Veterans Day Event

“Veterans and Labor – Partners in Service,” a special Veterans Day event, is set for Nov. 11, 2014 at the Orange County Fair & Event Center (88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa). For more information, check out the Veterans + Labor website by clicking here.

The event organizers are trying to raise at least 2,000 lbs (1 ton) of food and supplies for our veterans. This food drive is one of many service projects union members are hosting to help our veterans and their families.

SANTA ANA, CA (November 4, 2014) – Many concerned employees and residents have expressed interest in donating to the families of Lexi and Lexandra Perez and Andrea Gonzalez. In response to this, the City has set up a memorial fund to help the families of the three victims.

Memorial funds set up for the three little girls killed in a Halloween hit and run

The family of twins Alexandra and Lexi Perez Huerta, who died tragically this Halloween when they were struck by a hit and run driver in north Santa Ana, has set up a Memorial Fund to help pay for the girls’ funeral and to raise awareness.

Over $22,000 had been donated to the Perez Huerta family as of Sunday afternoon. The stated goal was $10,000.

Dr. Jim D’Agostino, the principal of Santiago Charter Middle School, where the other victim, Andrea Gonzalez, was an eighth grader, established a separate GoFundMe account for the young girl’s family. Over $12,000 has been donated, of the $15,000 goal, as of Sunday evening. Continue reading→

Donate Life California, which encourages people to register as organ donors, and the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation will hold a special Donate Life Rose Dedication Ceremony on Tuesday, October 28 at 10 a.m. honoring fallen law enforcement officers and their families. A beautiful rose in honor of the officers will be included in the Dedication Garden on the Donate Life Float in the 2015 Rose Parade, held in Pasadena on New Year’s Day. The officers’ families are invited to personalize the tribute.

Tuesday’s ceremony will be held at the Orange County Sheriff’s Training Academy, located at 15991 Armstrong Avenue, in Tustin, from 10 to 11 am.

Supervisor Shawn Nelson will help collect and donate care package items going to Kabul, Afghanistan at his “Cigars for Heroes” collection rally on October 26. Veterans, military family members and citizen-patriots are welcome to stop by and drop donations, take pictures and savor a cigar while collecting items that will be sent to active-duty military in November.

Continuing his legacy of supporting active duty military stationed overseas with a taste of freedom from appreciative family, friends and Veterans in OC, Supervisor Shawn Nelson announced today that he will host the 4 hour rally at Vintage Cigars, located at 3734 S.
