When the Voice of OC started reporting on Orange County politics we all hoped they were serious about their mission. However they were funded by the Orange County Employees Association, a union, and now it is more obvious than ever that they are less about reporting objectively and more about doing what their union masters bid them to do. Case in point – their latest attack by Voice of OC reporter Adam Elmahrek on Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez, the leading Hispanic candidate for the 69th Assembly District. Elmahrek reported that “The Santa Ana City Council is scheduled to vote May 7 on striking down one of the strictest campaign finance laws in Orange County, apparently to help Councilwoman Michele Martinez in her race for the state Assembly.” How is that reporting? The last part of that sentence is clearly his opinion, masquerading as journalism! Continue reading

Fundraising event for 69th A.D. candidate Martinez set for this Wed. night
Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez, the leading Hispanic candidate for the 69th Assembly District, is hosting a huge fundraiser this Wednesday night, at Original Mike’s. Here are the details:
Julio Perez supporter caught tearing down Michele Martinez’ signs
One of Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez’ supporters caught a Julio Perez supporter tearing down her campaign signs in Santa Ana today. Martinez and Perez are both running for the 69th Assembly District. The Perez supporter did not speak English, but when the Martinez supporter then queried him in Spanish, he ran off, as you can see in the video above.
The Martinez sign was on a private property which means that the Perez supporter was trespassing. He left his fingerprints behind on the sign he had torn down and ripped up. The sign has been turned over to the Santa Ana Police Department. Continue reading

Martinez was on TV with Tran, but Arellano does TV with Republicans too
You have to love Gustavo Arellano’s hyperbole. He reported this week that “I about spit out my Maker’s this evening when word came to me that SanTana councilwoman and 69th Assembly District hopeful Michele Martinez appeared on a Vietnamese-language channel here in Little Saigon, getting softball questions tossed at her by none other than former State Assembly member Van Thai Tran. Tran, the man who has long trashed Mexicans and tried to pit Vietnamese and Mexican voters against each other in a strategy only neo-Nazis and the Republican Party could love. Tran, the sworn enemy of Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.”
Since when is Gustavo a Sanchez acolyte? She is the biggest phony ever. She was a Republican for most of her life before she switched to the Democratic Party, only after she got blown out in a race for the Anaheim City Council. Sanchez not only switched parties, she also dropped her married name, which at the time was “Brixey,” and rediscovered her Latina surname, “Sanchez.” Continue reading

New 69th A.D. poll shows Martinez, Daly and Moreno on top
A new poll of voters in the 69th Assembly District might be the reason that Orange County Labor and the OC GOP machine are trying to squeeze Republican candidate Jose Moreno out of the 69th A.D. primary.
According to the survey memo, “Democrats Tom Daly and Michele Martinez and Republican Moreno lead the pack. Martinez leads all candidates among Latinos and leads Julio Perez, by 16 points. She also leads all candidates in Santa Ana – home to 60% of likely voters. Martinez is also likely to benefit disproportionately from the fact that Democratic women are among the most undecided subgroups in the district initially. And when voters were read profiles of the three major Democrats and a shorter profile of Republican Moreno, Martinez moved into the lead.” Continue reading
Local business owners to host a reception for Michele Martinez on 3/29
One thing that separates Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez’ campaign for the 69th Assembly District, from that of liberal candidate Julio Perez, is the ample support she is receiving from local businessmen. Perez is almost entirely funded by unions – the same unions who regularly advocate for more regulations, higher taxes and other job-killing mechanisms.
Local business owners Benjamin Mendoza, Ken Taylor and Manuel “Tiger” Vasquez are in fact hosting a fundraising reception in Support of Martinez on Thursday, March 29th, 2012, from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., at 710 S Main Street, in Santa Ana. Parking will be across the street at A-1 Muffler. Continue reading
Update: Julio Perez fails to prove that he is not a carpetbagger
UPDATE: Perez was interviewed at his alleged home by O.C. Register reporter Andrew Galvin, who reported that Perez magically knew what sort of toothpaste was in his restroom and what sort of soda was in his refrigerator. Perez however did NOT provide any solid evidence that he has been living at the home in question – no driver’s license and no utility bills. His residence remains in doubt. Click here to read Galvin’s article.
Remember when Democrat Phu Nguyen ran for the 68th Assembly District, in 2010, and there was a scandal as to whether or not he was a carpetbagger? That may have ultimately cost him that election. Now he is running around promoting his fellow liberal, Julio Perez, who is running for the 69th Assembly District. And guess what? It looks like Perez might be an even bigger carpetbagger! Prominent Latino leaders to host a reception for Michele Martinez on 3/23
Some folks take Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez for granted, but consider for a moment how much support she has for her campaign for the 69th Assembly District – not just here in Santa Ana but statewide. You see over the past few years Martinez has been very busy contributing to an organization called NALEO (the National Association of Latino Elected Officials) and another one called SCAG (the Southern California Association of Governments).
Martinez is in fact very popular – unlike her Democratic opponents. Sure, O.C. Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly has a following, but so did Tom Umberg, and what did that get him? A lopsided loss to Supervisor Janet Nguyen. I suspect Daly is headed for a similar end. And what about labor hack Julio Perez? The fact is, no one knows who he is. It will cost him a million dollars to develop the name I.D. that Martinez already has!
This Friday, March 23, Martinez’s supporters in L.A. County are hosting a fundraising event for her, in El Monte. Check out who is on the Host Committee: Continue reading
Who is Robert Hammond?
Robert Hammond got 34.5% of the vote in 2010, when he ran for the 69th Assembly District as the Republican nominee. Incumbent Jose Solorio blew him out with 65.5% of the vote, according to Smart Voter. Undeterred, Hammond is at it again this year. This time he is running for the Orange County Board of Education, Area One, after he quit the race for the 69th Assembly District. I believe he is also running for the 69th Assembly District OC GOP Central Committee.
Hammond has centered his campaign around gay-bashing. He has an incomplete campaign website, and you can click here to see his Facebook page. Continue reading

Did Nguyen and Baugh pull Hammond out of the race for the 69th A.D.?
An OC GOP insider gave me the scoop tonight on what really led to Republican Robert Hammond quitting the primary race for the 69th Assembly District – at the very last minute, last Friday, which was the filing deadline for that race. Hammond ended up pulling papers for the Orange County Board of Education’s Area One.
What my source told me was pretty much what I expected. Hammond did not come up with this scheme himself. Apparently Supervisor Janet Nguyen and OC GOP Chairman Scott Baugh were the ones that advised him to leave the Republican Party of Orange County hanging, with no candidate in the 69th A.D. With Republican candidate out, the 69th A.D. is down to Martinez and Daly
Republican Robert Hammond, a resident of Santa Ana, has withdrawn from the race for the 69th Assembly District, according to the OC Political blog. There are now four Democrats vying in the open primary, but only two of them have a shot at winning in June.
Santa Ana Couincil Member Michele Martinez has 13% of the vote, according to a poll conducted by the other leading Democratic candidate, Tom Daly, who currently is the O.C. Clerk-Recorder. Daly has a quarter of the vote, according to his poll. Continue reading
