Advisory: SAPD Detectives Arrest Suspect For Multiple Counts Of Sexual Assault
At approximately 4:30 pm on November 10, 2015, Santa Ana Police Special Crimes Section detectives arrested 33-year-old Barry Moore for multiple counts of sexual assault. Moore’s victims included two minors and one adult. Moore was arrested in Westminster, California without incident.
The case involved Moore and three (3) females between the ages of 14 and 22. Two of the sexual assaults occurred in 2010 and one in 2013. The crimes occurred in Santa Ana and Garden Grove. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A criminal defense attorney was sentenced to 90 days in jail today for submitting altered psychological reports to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) and Orange County Superior Court in a sexual assault case. David Robert Cohn, 51, Coto De Caza, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of deceit or collusion by an attorney. Cohn was also sentenced to three years of probation, required to pay $1,000 in fines, and ordered to donate $10,000 to the Victim Witness Emergency Fund. Cohn must also abide by any punishment, rule or order issued by the California State Bar.
In 2012, Cohn was a criminal defense attorney in the case of People v. Carmelo Sanchez Flores (Case # 12NF1891), a sexual assault case involving a victim under the age of 14. Cohn retained psychologist Veronica Thomas, Ph.D. to prepare a psycho-sexual evaluation report of Flores, which Thomas wrote. The report prepared by Dr. Thomas was dated Oct. 11, 2012. SANTA ANA, Calif. – A felon who had two of his prior felony convictions reduced to misdemeanors under Proposition 47 (Prop 47), which resulted in his release from custody, was charged today with shooting his firearm at police officers while leading them on a chase. Jimmy Hoang Troung, 28, Santa Ana, is charged with two felony counts of attempted murder on peace officers, two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm on peace officers, one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, one felony count of evading peace officers while driving recklessly, and sentencing enhancements for the use of a firearm. If convicted, Troung faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison. A police pursuit started tonight in Santa Ana at around 9:45 p.m., according to CBS. Apparently the suspect was wanted for a traffic stop but he fired a weapon at the officers. One of our readers reported hearing two gun shots. CBS reported that no one was injured by the bullets.
Our readers reported that the chase was at one time at 5th and Euclid and also affected Newhope St., McFadden, Harbor, Euclid. Reportedly two to three helicopters were involved as well as up to 12 police cars.
Police officials said they put down a spike strip that ended up disabling the suspect’s vehicle’s right rear tire. The strip appeared to have worked as witnesses observed sparks coming from the tire. Continue reading

Ramon Horta, 55, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of murder, one felony count of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury, hit and run with permanent injury or death, one misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license due to a prior DUI, and sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in state prison. He is being held on $1 million bail and is expected to be arraigned today in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. SANTA ANA POLICE STEP UP DUI ENFORCEMENT
The Santa Ana Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Friday, November 6th, 2015. It will begin at 9:00 PM and is scheduled to conclude at 3:00 AM. It will be conducted in the area of 1500 E. McFadden Avenue, in the City of Santa Ana.
The primary purpose of a DUI Checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, not to increase arrests. All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. Synopsis: On 10/21/15 between 7:45 and 08:10am, the victim’s vehicle was burglarized on the 1100 block of W. Stevens in the City of Santa Ana. Stolen items include the victim’s identification card and an Orange County Credit Union checkbook.
At 3:07 p.m., the unknown female (Suspect #1) deposited one of the victim’s checks into a SchoolsFirst FCU ATM (590 N. Euclid St, Anaheim). At 3:52 p.m., another unknown female (Suspect #2) used the victim’s identification card and check to purchase items at Food 4 Less (2140 S. The situation in some parts of Santa Ana is getting so bad that you are not safe even when you are at home. Consider what just happened on Wednesday night. An unidentified 22-year-old man who was shot while he was standing in front of his home, at the 900 block of South Minnie Street, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
The incident happened at about 7:20 p.m. The SAPD police officers who responded to the incident found the victim on his porch, with a gunshot to his upper body. Apparently he had been standing on his porch, facing the street, when an unidentified male fired one gunshot from the sidewalk and then fled on foot. Continue reading

Marcello Bisarello, a 24-year-old resident of Santa Ana, has been identified as the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a car on Tuesday, according to the O.C. Register.
Bisarello was sitting on a curb just before 1:10 p.m. at the 800 block of East McFadden Avenue when he was fatally struck by Ramon Horta-Jaime (aka Jaime Ramon Horta), 55, who was driving a Ford Windstar van eastbound on the street before swerving, police said.
A witness, Cesar Guzman of Santa Ana, was driving behind Horta-Jaime’s minivan when he saw the vehicle swerve up onto the curb and make a loud bang. Then Guzman said that he “saw something rolling over under the car and when it came out it was … a person,” according to KTLA. Continue reading

MAN CHARGED WITH ILLEGALLY REIMBURSING CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS OVER $13,000 TO BE ARRAIGNED
SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) has charged a man with illegally reimbursing contributors for Janet Nguyen’s 2012 Orange County Board of Supervisors election campaign. Son Truong Nguyen, 38, Fountain Valley, is charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of unlawful contribution. If convicted on all counts, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of one year in Orange County jail and a $10,000 fine. Charges were filed Oct. 28, 2015, and an arraignment letter was sent out yesterday for Son Nguyen to appear in court on Nov. 24, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-54, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
Between Nov. 2, 2011, and Jan. 30, 2012, Son Nguyen is accused of illegally reimbursing campaign contributors for Janet Nguyen’s 2012 Orange County Board of Supervisors election on 10 different occasions. He is accused of reimbursing a total of $13,300. Continue reading
