*Co-defendant girlfriend is charged as an accessory after the fact in this case

WESTMINSTER – A nephew is scheduled to be arraigned today for the shooting murder of his uncle. Daniel Lee Duvall, 37, Westminster, is charged with one felony count of murder with sentencing enhancements for personal discharge of a firearm causing death, three sentencing enhancements for crime-bail-crime, prior felony convictions for residential burglary in 1996, possession of a firearm by a felon in 2002, possession of a firearm by a felon in 2008, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell in 2010. Co-defendant Tina Pauline Arbogast, 48, Westminster, is charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact.

If convicted, Daniel Duvall faces a maximum sentence of 85 years to life in state prison. Arbogast faces a maximum sentence of three years in state prison. Both defendants are scheduled to be arraigned today, March 13, 2015, in Department W-12, West Justice Center, Westminster. The time is to be determined. Continue reading→

The SAPD captured two gangbangers who shot a young woman in Ward 3

A 19-year-old Santa Ana woman was shot in the leg this Thursday night, at around 8 pm, while she was hanging out with two friends in her driveway, at the 1700 block of North Spurgeon Street, according to the O.C. Register.

An 18-year-old and 17-year-old drove up to the woman and her friends and fired five shots. The woman was hit once in her leg.

Fortunately an SAPD police officer was nearby, heard the shots and took chase as he saw a car taking off from the vicinity. The police officer pulled over Joshua Fermin, 18 of Santa Ana and a 17-year-old male friend of his at the Main Street onramp to the southbound I-5. Continue reading→

MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING AND COMMITTING LEWD ACTS ON 2-YEAR-OLD GIRL

WESTMINSTER – A man is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow for sexually assaulting a 2-year-old girl and committing lewd acts upon her. Joseph Michael Hishmeh, 21, Garden Grove, is charged with one felony count of sexual penetration with a child 10 years or younger, five felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, and a sentencing enhancement allegation for committing substantial sexual conduct with a child. If convicted, Hishmeh faces a maximum sentence of 31 years to life in state prison. He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, Friday, March 13, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in Department W-12, West Justice Center, Westminster.

Between April 30, 2014, and Sept. 1, 2014, Hishmeh is accused of committing lewd acts upon 2-year-old Jane Doe in his home by touching her breasts, vagina, and legs under her clothes with sexual intent. On one occasion, he is accused of digitally penetrating Jane Doe’s vagina. The evidence was discovered during an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Continue reading→

Advisory: Santa Ana Police Department & OCDA Investigating OIS and Shooting Incident

Suspect: Benito Osorio (39) Santa Ana

On 3-11-2015 at 1:00 PM SAPD Officers responded to a report of a shooting in progress in the 800 Block of South Cypress. The initial shooting investigation in the 800 Block of South Cypress revealed that the suspect located the victim, whom it is believed he had a dispute with regarding a female third party, who was not present. During the altercation the suspect fired his weapon at the victim; however the shots did not strike him. The suspect fled the shooting scene and was located by responding officers.

The officers ultimately stopped the suspect vehicle in the 300 Block of South Main Street. The suspect began pointing the gun at his head while still seated in the vehicle, eventually shooting himself. The suspect then exited the vehicle while still armed with the handgun and confronted the officers on scene, prompting an officer involved shooting. All of the officers involved in the incident were uninjured. The suspect was transported to Western Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Continue reading→

The Santa Ana Police Department’s phone was ringing off the hook today at around 1 pm, as residents called in about a shooting, around the 800 block of Cypress Ave., in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

Apparently a man in a white truck shot at multiple people. SAPD police officers tried to pull him over in the 300 block of Cypress Ave. They ended up shooting the man after he shot at them. Continue reading→

Car thieves who stole a Santa Ana car nabbed in Placentia

A car that was stolen in Santa Ana turned up in Placentia on Monday, at around 11 pm, when police in that area spotted the vehicle near South Angelina Drive and Backs Lane, according to the O.C. Register.

The car thieves were pursued by Placentia police and they ended up crashing into a parked car. They then ran away on foot and one man was caught at the scene while another was found in an apartment that was nearby. Continue reading→

IRVINE, CA – The Irvine Police Department (IPD) is seeking the public’s help identifying and locating a suspect, who carjacked a victim in a parking structure.

The suspect is described as a female, Hispanic, age 20’s, 5’2” tall and 130 pounds. She was wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Shortly before 6:00 p.m., the suspect approached a female victim, who was sitting in a vehicle with the windows closed in a parking lot on the 17000 block on Von Karman Avenue. The suspect confronted the victim and attempted to carjack her by ordering her out of the car, but the victim refused and the suspect fled. Continue reading→

On February 17, 2015, at 10:00 pm, the pictured suspect entered Rite-Aid located at 18395 Brookhurst Street in Fountain Valley. The suspect selected a soda and approached an employee at the cash register. The suspect then grabbed his waistline and simulated having a handgun while demanding cash. Woman accused of stabbing a laundromat patron shot by the Police

Subject: **UPDATE** Officer Involved Shooting: 900 block of S. Roberts St.

At 5:30 P.M., Anaheim Police Officers were called to investigate a stabbing at a laundromat in the 900 block of S. Euclid St. Reports indicated a female suspect stabbed a female laundromat patron with a knife. As officers were responding, the female armed with the knife fled the scene. Area residents and business owners knew the woman, who was suspected in the stabbing lived in a nearby apartment complex. Witnesses directed officers to the apartment of Monique Jenee Deckard, in the 900 block of S. Roberts St.

Officers attempted to make contact with Deckard, who was reported to live alone. Deckard, talking to officers through the closed apartment door, indicated she was not coming out to speak with officers. An Anaheim Police Tactical Negotiator was on-duty and requested to the scene. However, before the negotiator arrived Deckard emerged from the apartment. She was armed with two knives and charged officers who were in the courtyard of her apartment complex. At this time, several Anaheim Police Officers were involved in an officer involved shooting. Deckard was struck by the gunfire and transported to a local hospital by Anaheim Fire & Rescue Paramedics. Homeless man arrested after stealing a cell phone outside of Taqueria El Perico

A homeless man was arrested on suspicion of grand theft Friday morning after the SAPD, with the help of a sheriff’s department helicopter, found him hiding near Taqueria El Perico, 716 E. First St., where a man reported that his cellphone had been stolen, according to the O.C. Register.

Apparently the homeless man grabbed the cellphone from a fellow who was standing outside the restaurant, as he was talking to someone on the phone. The homeless man then fled south on Hickory St., in Santa Ana’s Ward 2, which is represented on the City Council by Councilwoman Michele Martinez. Ironically Martinez herself has had both a purse and a bicycle stolen during her time as a City Council Member. Continue reading→

At about 8:15 last night, we received a call of a robbery at the Starbucks on Adams Avenue at Brookhurst Street. The suspect had grabbed the tip jar from the counter and ran into the parking lot where he was followed by a customer. The customer confronted the suspect about the theft, and the suspect grabbed a 40-pound metal sign and attacked the customer, striking him in the head. The suspect then got on a bicycle and fled from the area.

Officers arrived and started their investigation and area search for the suspect. A short time later, the suspect was located in the area of Brookhurst Street and Ellis Avenue in Fountain Valley. The suspect was later identified by the victim and other witnesses, and was found in possession of the stolen property. Our officers arrested Francisco Cardenas, a 26 year old resident of Santa Ana, for theft and assault with a deadly weapon, and he was booked in the Huntington Beach city jail. Continue reading→

FORMER INSURANCE AGENT SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS IN STATE PRISON FOR RECEIVING OVER $900,000 COMMISSION AND PREMIUM PAYMENTS FROM FRAUDULENT INSURANCE POLICIES

SANTA ANA – A former insurance agent was convicted and sentenced today to seven years in state prison for receiving over $900,000 in commission and premium payments from fraudulent insurance policies. Jacob Richard Bonzer, 28, Chicago, Ill. pleaded guilty today to 49 felony counts of grand theft, one felony count of forging a false Department of Insurance report of examination, one felony count of transacting insurance business without certificate of authority, 45 felony counts of insurance fraud, with sentencing enhancements for aggravated white collar crime over $500,000, and a taking over $200,000. He was also ordered to pay $918,302 restitution to the victims.

Circumstances of the Case

Between 2009 and 2013, Bonzer committed three separate crimes. A joint investigation was conducted by the Brea Police Department, California Department of Insurance (CDI) and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Continue reading→

DRUNKEN WRONG-WAY FREEWAY DRIVER SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR MURDERING ONE AND INJURING TWO OTHERS IN HEAD-ON CRASH

SANTA ANA – A drunken driver was sentenced today to 15 years to life in state prison for murdering one and injuring two others in a head-on crash after driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic on two separate Orange County freeways. Ruben Gurrola, 26, Pomona, was found guilty by a jury on Nov. 14, 2014, of one felony count each of murder, driving under the influence causing bodily injury, driving with a blood alcohol level .08 percent or more causing injury, and a sentencing enhancement for causing great bodily injury.

Late on the night of Jan. 28, 2012, Gurrola left a Newport Beach bar with his then 24-year-old girlfriend Allison Poon after several hours of drinking alcohol with friends. The defendant took a cab with Poon to a friend’s house. After arriving at the home, Gurrola got into the driver’s seat of a Honda sedan and drove away with Poon in the passenger seat. At approximately 1:40 a.m., the defendant drove under the influence of alcohol on the wrong side of the freeway into oncoming traffic, heading northbound in the southbound lanes of the 241 toll road. Several motorists called 911 and had to swerve to avoid being hit by the defendant. Continue reading→
