The SAPD gets $201K to do more DUI and traffic enforcement
The Santa Ana Police Department has been awarded a $201,300.00 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a year-long program aimed at preventing deaths and injuries on our roadways through special enforcement and public awareness efforts. The grant received by Santa Ana will aid in the city’s ongoing effort to improve traffic safety and the quality of life. The Santa Ana Police Department will use the funding as part of an on-going commitment to keep our roadways safe through both enforcement and education. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for fleeing the scene of an accident which led to the death of his girlfriend on Halloween night and endangering a 13-month-old girl. Francisco Javier Montano, 21, Irvine, is charged with one felony count of hit and run with permanent injury or death, one felony count of child abuse and endangerment, and one misdemeanor count of driving without a valid license. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison and six months in jail. He is being held on $200,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Oct 31, 2013, Montano is accused of driving a Toyota RAV4 eastbound near 1600 West Edinger Avenue in Santa Ana with his 21-year-old girlfriend Gloria Sanchez and 13-month-old Jane Doe. Continue reading
SAPD arrests father for attempted murder of his infant daughter
On November 1, 2013, a two month old baby girl was admitted to a local hospital in critical condition. The infant was treated for head and skull injuries.
The investigation revealed that during the morning hours of November 1, Andres Tafoya, age 30, was left alone to watch the baby girl while the infant’s mother was at work. Tafoya is believed to have punched the infant multiple times to the head causing injury. Tafoya assisted in taking the baby girl to the hospital, but fled prior to police arrival. Continue reading

OC Sheriff’s Department Receives Second Chance Act Grant
SANTA ANA, CA – (November 5, 2013) – The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Inmate Services Division was awarded a Second Chance Act grant of $319,000 from the Department of Justice to provide services to inmates who have a high risk to reoffend. Woman allegedly pushed out of a pickup truck ID’ed as Gloria Sanchez
Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Update- Detective request public’s assistance -Suspicious Death/Homicide Investigation
Detectives advise that family members have contacted them based on media reports on this case. The victim in this case has been ID’ed as Gloria Sanchez (21) additionally the small child found with her was her 13 month old daughter ( no name released).
Additionally Friday night Fransico Montano’s (21) turned himself and his vehicle a Black Toyota Rav4 into the detectives at the Police Department. Montano is the victims boyfriend and father of the 13 month old child. Montano was uncooperative with Detectives at this time. Detectives booked Montano into Santa Ana Police Department Jail for CVC 20001(a) Felony Hit and Run for now pending further investigation. Bail was enhanced to 200k as Montano is considered a flight risk. Continue reading

THIRTEEN MEN CONVICTED AND SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTING OR AGREEING TO ENGAGE IN PROSTITUTION
SANTA ANA – Thirteen men were convicted and sentenced for attempting or agreeing to engage in prostitution. Geobani Jonathan Benitez, 24, Tustin; Eufermio Duarte, 36, Santa Ana; Ierusamlema Stevenson Faupusa, 37 Los Alamitos; Jeremy Fields, 38, Costa Mesa; Michael Allen Gomez, 51, Santa Ana; Juan Valdez Heredia, 67, Santa Ana; Noe Hernandez, 35, Santa Ana; and Arnulfo Martinez, 28, Santa Ana; each pleaded guilty in October 2013, to one misdemeanor count of agreeing to engage in prostitution. Jesus Quezada Cisneros, 55, Garden Grove, pleaded guilty Oct. 10, 2013, to one misdemeanor count of loitering with intent to commit prostitution.
Benitez, Cisneros, Duarte, Fields, Faupusa, Gomez, Heredia, Hernandez, and Arnulfo Martinez, were each sentenced to three years informal probation and 10 days in jail with the possibility of CalTrans in lieu of jail, and must submit to AIDS testing and education. Benitez, Cisneros, Duarte, Faupusa, Fields, and Hernandez, were also required to donate to the Victim/Witness Emergency Fund. Continue reading

Woman dies after falling or being pushed out of a pick-up truck on Edinger

The Santa Ana Police Department responded to a report of a woman who was found lying on the street at 1600 W. Edinger last night at around 8 pm, according to an SAPD press release. Upon arrival, the police officers located a woman who had sustained major trauma apparently as a result of either being pushed or jumping from a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Edinger near Raitt Street. Found near the woman was a young female child about 1-2 years old. Continue reading
